Favorite and Least Favorite NPC

I'm sure this topic has existed before, but I find this sort of thing fun to talk about, and I love to see other people's opinions. Besides, opinions change over time!

So, who is your favorite and least favorite NPC? By that, I don't mean regular villagers like Bob, Velma, etc. I'm specifically talking about characters like Isabelle, Tom Nook, Kicks, and others like them. Since this is the New Leaf folder, I guess I'm only considering NPCs from New Leaf and none of the new guys from New Horizons.

My favorite has to be Kapp'n. He's hilarious, I love his design and mannerisms, and I adore his songs so much. He's just so cute... although I'm sure that he would disagree. A true man of the sea is never cute! (LIES)

As for my least favorite... it's definitely Leif. Sorry, Leif fans. He just comes across as overbearingly condescending, even if he's not meant to be. Every time he tells me to let him know whenever I change my 'happy little mind' about purchasing something, I make an angry reaction at him.

So, what about you guys? I'd love to know what you all think.

my favourite since wild world has got to be sable, she's super cute and i love her backstory so much, it's a shame they don't mention it in the newer games but i still enjoy talking to her everyday ♡

my least favourite is zipper, he is actually horrifying, i got his amiibo a couple of years ago and i literally threw it away just because his face freaked me out

tbh i love and hate leif, he's super cute yet really ugly at the same time it's weird

My favorite NPCs in New Leaf are Leif, Booker, and K.K Slider.

Leif - I love that everything is always 'happy' with him. I especially love when he wants to sell me a 'happy axe'. Normally, when people are overly upbeat it bothers me, but not with Leif for some reason. I also love sloths, so I think he's adorable.

Booker - He is so sweet and lovable. I love how insecure he is and I just want to comfort him. I also feel so terrible for him whenever I have a lost item and he says he can't leave the police station...ever.

K.K. Slider - He has been a favorite of mine since the GameCube version. I always look forward to Saturday when I get to hear him sing live.

Honorable mentions go to Kapp'n and Katrina. Kapp'n is cute and I love his cheeky songs. Katrina has a really cool aesthetic, but I wish her feature was more functional.

I don't really dislike any of the NPCs but I suppose if I had to pick a least favorite it would be Lyle. He just has way too much dialogue and his text is the only one I feel the need to rush through because all I want to do is get my HHA score and move on. I don't need to read a novel.

I’m also a Leif fan, although I agree that overtime it can feel as if he’s a bit overbearing. I love his little gardening shop, his design, and that he’s always sharing his passion for gardening, I want to love something as much as Leif loves plants.

For a least favorite, I’d have to say Digby because he’s just...there. I’ve never liked the Happy Home Academy or Showcase features either.

My least favorite has to be Harvey, though, and this honestly carries into New Horizons. The only time I ever talked to him was when he would “let me have” and item in his makeshift shop-platform thingy for 5 Meow Coupons, and he just honestly isn’t that interesting. He’s not lovable or memorable like a lot of the other NPCs and he really has no personality other than a few words Nintendo thought seemed hippie-like.

my favourite since wild world it is blathers, I love talking to him. he is so brilliant ^^ and cute. we have something in common, we both are afraid of bugs.
and my least favorite is porter because the discussion is always the same, too bad.

hoo boy. this is a tough one as i honestly love the majority of the npcs but if i had to narrow it down, my absolute favourite npcs from new leaf were celeste, pascal, rover, kicks, isabelle and leif!

celeste - there is literally,,, not a single thing to dislike about celeste. she is the absolute sweetest baby and i admire her love for astrology so, so much. and also, she’s literally so gorgeous?? i love her.

pascal - this might sound a bit silly but there’s a part of me that thinks that there’s a lot to learn from pascal; he is always unapologetically himself and devotes all of his time to what makes him happiest in life; swimming and scallops. sure, some of the things that he says can be a bit goofy but he really makes some good points sometimes and in a way, i wish i were a bit more like him and less anxious and upright.

rover - god, i miss him so much in new horizons. while i know he has never been that important of a character and he made an appearance back in may, i still miss him a lot. in new leaf, however, he wasn’t always one of my favourites; with how often i reset, i saw him pretty frequently and the charm definitely wore off after the first few dozen times lmao. but now, i can’t imagine a world in which i don’t love him; like with pascal, i‘m in awe of how free he is. i think part of what draws me to him is he is the only character that has no place to be; tom nook has always had his shops, blathers has always had his museum and so on and so forth but rover has never had a destination in mind. i feel like a lot of people, including myself, scramble a bit to find a place where they feel they belong; a place that they can call home. but with rover, his home is on a train. or on a bus. or in a cab. his home is anywhere that he’s never been, belonging to any adventure that he’s never been on before and i couldn’t ask for a better life for him. so, even though i miss him so, so much in new horizons, i know that he’s just on another one of his adventures and i love that for him.

kicks - i realize that i’ve been going ridiculously in depth as to why i like certain npcs lmao but with kicks, i just think that he’s super cool and so, so cute. i honestly love skunks a lot aha.

isabelle - while i’m not as fond of her in new horizons as i was in new leaf, she was definitely one of my top 3 favourite npcs back in the day! despite how scatterbrained and completely harmless she was, even when attempting to be authoritative, i always admired just how energetic and kind she was and thought that her asking for a seashell during the tutorial process was so precious. :’)

leif - lastly, this cool little dude. like with isabelle, while i wouldn’t really consider him one of my favourites in new horizons, i adored him in new leaf. i’ve never really been much of a plant person, both in-game and irl, but his happiness was honestly contagious and even if i managed to catch him during one of his naps, i always really enjoyed getting to see him!

as for least favourite, the only npc that i don’t like at all is lyle; he’s always been much more of a weasel to me than an otter, personality-wise, and i just,, genuinely cannot stand him or his dialogue lmao.

My fave has to be Isabelle. Just her overall design is adorable and she is just so damn kind and helpful.

I don't really have a least fav but Kapp'n is the npc I don't like as much as others. It's more just the fact he sings every time and i mean ik I can skip it but still. I came for the island not a cconcert XD

I would have to say my least favorite NPC is Gracie. She makes me nervous, even though I think her furniture is some of the best in the game. But she always has to throw so much shade whenever I look at her merchandise that it makes me not like talking to her. I know she's supposed to be funny but since the rest of the town is so kind and friendly, her attitude kind of sticks out, and not in a good way.

For favorite NPC, that's got to be Phineas. It might be because he's so rare, and whenever I discover him wandering around the town I know that means some very good news for me! But I also love his outfit. He looks so cute in his scout uniform. He has a bit of Teddy Roosevelt vibe to him as well, which is kind of random but cute.

My favourite NPCs have always been Kicks and Pascal! They just seem so cool ( *´∀` )♪ I love their designs - stuff as simple as the colours they have is nice. Blue, red and yellow are my favourite colours :]
As for my least favourite?? Probably Shrunk. He's annoying and ugly D: I love axolotls but Shrunk is just.. ugly. I've always hated him.

Favorite: DJ K.K. He brings the fun 6 days a week.

Least Favorite: Zipper. I've only done Bunny Day once in New Leaf, but I think it worked like New Horizons with eggs being in places they shouldn't.

Ahh I love so many NPC's this question is always so tricky!

Isabelle in New Leaf is adorable and I love her, I scan her amiibo figure in constantly so she can have a little vacation in the campground lol. Reese is so cute too though, and I miss having her in New Horizons because I love hers and Cyrus' designs. Sable is a sweetheart who also needs a break from working but I don't have her amiibo

Honestly picking my favourite is so hard but maybe it is Sable?? I just have such a soft spot for her, since she's so sweet and shy and eventually comes out of her shell to talk to you more!

My least favourite is ... hm... maybe Luna? I'm not a huge fan of her design and I don't really use the dream suit ever. Similarly I'm not a massive fan of how Dr. Shrunk looks? But he gives me reactions so that puts him just a touch ahead in terms of who I like better.

If we're just limiting it to standard shopkeepers and routine visitors, I'd probably have to say my favorite NPCs are Blathers, Brewster, and Celeste. Birds are my favorite type of creature in real life, and owls are really neat, so I have a soft spot for the owl siblings. Meanwhile, Brewster is fun because he gives us a job to do, has his own series of gyroids, and allows us to purchase a carryout cup of coffee each day.

If we include holiday and special event NPCs, my favorites are Jack and Pavé. Jack goes without saying, as my username makes it obvious that I love Halloween. Pavé I love not only because I like birds and appreciate his peacock design, but I really enjoy his personality and dialogue.

If I have to choose one from those groups, it would be Blathers (though he's not that great in New Leaf itself since his dialogue is nothing compared to other games and he doesn't actually...blather) and Jack. If I have to pick between those two, then Jack.

My least favorite NPC is probably Lyle.


Extra: Shoutouts to Pelly, Pete, and Phyllis too, though everyone else listed are more interesting to me. I'll also mention Katrina because she's really neat, and I love that she eventually got her own shop on Main Street, but if I really threw her into the equation it would be too messy. As you can gather from this long post, I'm bad at making decisions.

Omg sorry, Kapp'n is my least favorite lol. I think they toned his flirting down but I always felt super uncomfortable when he would hit on me, plus the mythology around kappas makes it really dark

My favorite is Blathers I love how passionate he is and how knowledgeable he is about the creatures. I love that he's afraid of bugs, esp as an owl.

uh i like this thread, definitely really hard to make a list with all these cuties!

favorite: i must say there are barely any npcs that i don't like, isabelle (although a very basic answer) is definitely up there for me! she's so sweet and helpful, i wish she played a bigger role in new horizons like she did in new leaf! i'm also a fan of leif who i just recently found out was a guy LOL i like his enthusiasm for plants, he's just overall a really cute character! other honorable mentions (and reasons) are kappn (he seemed like an old, funny and adorable grandpa oversharing with you on his lil boat trips), timmy and tommy (.. just look at them!! lil tanuki babies...), tom nook (considering his backstory, he's a real champ!! it's sad how so many people see him as a villain) and the list goes on!!

least favorite: again, there are barely any bad npcs but if i had to decide on one i guess i'd have to say redd? just based on how he's supposed to be a sly fox that is greedy for money! i don't mind him existing in the game and i find finding out which artwork is real to be fun, but just because he's the only ''bad guy'' in this game i think he is the answer for me by default!

My favorite will always be Brewster. I love his chill vibe.. i love how his design looks. He is one of my favorite characters.

My least favorite might be Kicks. I just don't really like him, I can't really explain it, his style and what he says just makes me not like him.
