Exploding head syndrome

Yes
Your brain can make you see/hear some weird **** when you're in the state of falling asleep, especially if you're really tired
Exactly, but what is it called for all im asking? (And don't give me that "You were just falling asleep" I want a name that explains what it is.)

I have it frequently, at least once a week. I often hear a loud explosion, and sometimes the sound of a door being slammed. Because it wakes me up completely, it's gotten to the point where I just get annoyed.

@PaperBoy012305: What you're talking about doesn't seem to be considered part of the exploding head syndrome, but I've also heard voices during slumber. It's just an auditory hallucination.

@Everyone else: Instead of being ****s, try being helpful for once.

Hm. I've never had the exploding head thing happen but I have frequent 'hypnic jerks'. For those that have experienced both, are they similar?

Thank you! I guess that's what I experienced then.

Esphas is right it's literally just you hallucinating/dreaming because you're either tired or actually already sleeping lol

I mean everyone told him the answer

I wanted to know the exact meaning for it. Not something simple. Reindeer told me exactly what it was, the way I wanted it. Reindeer gave me the best answer.

Now guys, stop. Before it gets locked or something. My question has been answered.

Well I've heard loud noises while I was sleeping that I know didn't actually happen but I don't think I've experienced "Exploding Head."

In a way, but not entirely. When I experience exploding head syndrome, it's sometimes paired with such a jerk (or maybe I'm just startled from the sound) and/or having a momentary feeling of fear. When it first started happening I also felt confused, especially with the door slamming noise, because I wasn't sure if the sound was real or in my head.
Hypnic jerks don't have much of an effect. It's just a muscle spasm which wakes me up, but there's no accompanying emotions or thoughts.

I think this happened to me a few weeks ago. I was having some kind of nightmare, and when I jolted awake I heared a loud sound that scared me awake even more.

I've had this before but I had no idea it was actually a thing! I think it's happened once or twice.

I had this happen once that I can remember, a few years ago. I was taking a nap after school and jolted awake thinking there was some kind of apocalyptic thunderstorm raging outside but it was a clear day and neither of my parents heard anything. Scared the heck out of me tbh

my god yes! it happened to me many times..kinda, not explosions though! it's like when I try to sleep I feel like I'm going to fall down from a high place and for a second there I do feel like I'm falling so I wake up in a panic. it's weird and hard to explain

I can't recall this happening to me ever :o

sounds terrifying, though.

I've had that happen, it's pretty terrifying to say the least. I was hoping this was going to be about actual heads exploding.
