Experiences with the campsite trick

As mentioned in another thread, my goal is to get all 8 new villagers and so far, I was able to get 7 out of 8. The last one I'm missing is, what a surprise, Raymond. Now I know that this guy is treated like the Holy Grail of Animal Crossing right now and getting him is not quite easy. Because of the fact that I don't have tons of IGB or NMT to buy him here, I'm trying out the campsite trick. I already kicked out my both smug villagers in hope to increase the chances of a smug villager appearing on the campsite (I read that this should help). Now I wonder, how successful is this trick? How many of you found their dreamie via this method? What was the shortest time you spend on searching and what was the longest? I spent 2 hours so far, met 3 smugs and some others and will probably waste my weekend trying to find that damn cat...

I got Raymond using the trick Took me a few hours. Jumped forward 6 days after every encounter and then one day a time after that. Loaded just until Isabelle told me if someone was there or not. If she didn't announce a visitor I just closed out right there and rolled a day forward.

Can’t speak for myself as I’m still trying to kick my only smug out to try this for Raymond, but my sister just went through this process to get Judy. She had to TT all the way into next year, but after all of that, Judy was the 24th one to appear for her. Let‘s just say she’s very happy to have her home!

I’d say this is a far more reliable method to get any non-Amiibo villagers you want than island hopping if you aren’t shy to TT.

i wanna try this to get raymond too (like everyone else) but im kinda confused - do you do this trick when you're island is full, like all ten villagers, and then kick someone out once you get the camper you're looking for? can you pick who you kick out, or is it random like ive heard? is there like, a clear post or guide about the details of this trick that ive missed?

I did it with a full island, and it’s random who they kick out; you can only choose who to kick if it’s an amiibo camper.

I got Raymond yesterday using the campsite method! I went through 25 villagers and it took about 4 hours. I started with 3 normal, 2 snooty, 1 lazy, 1 jock, 1 sisterly, and 1 peppy villager. Here's my data if you're interested! I had about a 50% smug spawn rate.

I got my first Raymond (who I eventually move into my main island) using this trick. I booted out my forced campsite move-in then went to look for a smug. There are only 34 of them so getting Raymond or any specific smug villager isn't that hard. I got him pretty late though at number 27. Other people probably got him way earlier. Still, you really have to be patient coz the campsite won't just give you smug or any specific personality for that matter. The game will favor the personality that you're missing but not at 100% rate. I'd say around 50-60% I had 43 campers all in all with no repeats. So the earlier you get him, the better.

P.S. I did this trick again a few days after getttng him to look for a snooty villager then suddenly Raymond appeared again as my 3rd camper lol talk about weird luck (Btw, I'm using a another copy of NH and a second Switch in both occassions).

there is also a way to "choose" who they kick out without amiibos when you have a full island! i can confirm it as i reset until tybalt specifically mentioned to move marina out.

what you would need to do is when you finally get the desired villager into your campsite, say raymond for example, you would talk to him once, then SAVE - that's important. then you can load back in and see who he wants to replace. if he mentions a villager you don't want to keep right off the bat then you don't have to do anything except agree to replace that villager. but if he mentions a villager you want to keep, you force quit the game before the conversation ends. rinse and repeat until he mentions a villager you want to move out and bam, profit

Also if you're 8 of 10 villagers in town than you just make a 9th plot and they go there.

Thought I'm gonna posted an update after I tried out the campsite trick for the very first time now.

First of all, it worked.

It took me about 6 hours (split it up in a few hours yesterday, a few hours today) and about 30 villagers before he showed up. I had to TT all the way to the end of February 2021 (now back at the current time of course).

Second, it seems to be really helpful to not having any villagers on the island with the same personality as your dreamie has. I had no smugs at all and it showed up quite a bunch of smug villagers at the campsite, but also some snooty and normal ones as well as one jock.

Overall, I can only recommend this trick if you also as broke as me and can't afford tons of IGB or NMT for a more popular villager. It may takes some time, but it's worth it.

I got him as well! It only took me 2-3 hours because I had no smug villagers and didn’t have any for a long time. He had asked to move out Mira, so I let him because I don’t talk to her that much and she’s asked to move multiple times before.
