I've gotten numerous gifts by villagers, but I don't recall one as expensive as the throne Marshal just gave me.
Marshal just moved in a few days ago and made his first request to me: a pear. I got him a perfect pear. Throne.
Seems legit.
Has anyone else gotten a throne yet? Did you have to wait for high friendship, or did you get yours early from a villager, as well?
Maybe it's just completely random the object given (besides the pic, of course, which seems clearly contingent on high friendship), so long as it is something Nooks' can offer?
Since villagers can apparently hand out thrones, has anyone gotten a royal crown or crown from a villager yet?
I've been given a Throne by Chester. I was either giving him fruit or helping him with a petition. Villagers can't give Royal Crowns/Crowns, though, at least as rewards for completing favors. Those rewards can only be furniture, carpets/wallpapers, or shirts. The only accessory I was ever given was a pair of glasses, and that was through letter. The letter itself said something along the lines of, "The right pair of glasses can completely change someone's appearance!" So they might be able to gift hats, but it would have to be super rare.
I've found that it's mostly random, but if you do something extra-special for them, they tend to give out either Spotlight items (the Throne is one, I believe) or items that you don't have in your catalog. I noticed that such favors include giving Perfect Fruit, helping with a petition, or when they just drop by randomly in your home, the last of which is dependent on friendship. So it's basically random until you do something special, at which point there's a pool of items the villagers can use, and the item they will pick is random then.
I received 4 thrones from villagers in Town 1. Friendship has been high. The wishy star sent me 2.
You can receive dresses and hats from your villagers. I received a summer dress from one villager from each town. One turned into my favorite summer dress.
Two days ago Angus sent a hunter's cap in my 3rd town. I put the items on to make them happy.
I've never got a throne or any other expensive gifts >.<... yet? haha
I've seen the throne once or twice in Nook's store (I actually googled why it cost so much and if it was worth it, and ppl said no it wasn't lol) so I didnt buy it..
I'm not really eager to get expensive gifts.. I like it when they give me their pictures tho :3

I'm pretty sure that when you have a high friendship with a villager and complete certain requests (perfect fruit, customized furniture, sickness, and visiting/hosting), there is a chance they will give you something reorderable, furniture being a priority, that's not in your catalogue. I have very few reorderable furniture items that I need to catalogue, and my villagers have been a huge help in getting them for me, throne included.
