Ok, so here's how it all went down:

Bangle and Pierce began to hang out a lot at Bangle and I's places. Then, eventually, Bangle began using Pierce's catchphrase, "hawkeye".

So then, Bangle being a peppy/social villager, she began to hang out with others, who caught on to the "hawkeye" thing as well. So yeah, now I have a town full of animals who say "hawkeye" every 2 sentences.

...HOW DO I STOP THE APOCA- NOOOOOOO BANGLE! STOP! PLEASEEEE! -sup, hawkeye?

Welp...
Have fun in your hawkeye town :3 Just hope that one of them asks for a catchphrase change.

im pretty sure isabelle gives us the option to change a villager's catchphrase :)

Everyone in my town says "Picante" which is Tex's original catchphrase.
Hes always starting my town trends.

I'd happily take "hawkeye" over my villagers favourite catchphrase... "bucko". ><

Lol! On CF, I had a town full of "buttz" because my friend was over and gave it to a villager who happily passed it around.

Everyone at my town at one point decided they were ducks or chickens and kept saying quack or cluck.

Lol.

I wanna make an all-goat town, but there aren't enough. ;-; Then I'd make them all say "maaa" or something, because goats IRL literally sound just like sheep, except it sounds more like an m at the beggining than a b. I'd know, because I've played with goats before and carried a baby goat around for a while IRL. XD

Reminds me of the "in bed" epidemic going on in my town. I gave Genji the catchphrase "in bed" as a joke and now its spreading to all my other villagers, hehe.

But yeah, if you don't like it you can go to Isabelle, and say that the villagers in question are being rude or something like that under the "problematic villagers" option.

Hahahaha you can just report a villager for saying bad words at the town hall. It'll reset to their original phrase.

I gave Tipper the catchphrase "Mooshy" because she's a cow and her original catchphrase is "Pushy". Jay (a Bird) started to say "mooshy", then Phoebe (an Ostrich) and then Maple (a Bear Cub) started saying "Mooshy"..
Maple's always been insecure about the one catchphrase I've forced her to keep, so when she switched to "mooshy", I just knew she asked around for a new catchphrase..

Do villagers actually have those kinds of conversations with others? I've always wondered what happens each time you press the A button one second too late while they're talking and they finish before you can inspect it like a mother trying to find any innapropriate things for their child XD

Well, no, I don't think so, but talking to a person a lot will get them to change their catchphrase. Maple and Tipper live on the same side of town and Maple's always around Tipper and Phoebe, so it wouldn't be a surprise if she got it just by talking to Tipper a lot..

Unfortunately, reporting them to Isabelle only teaches them to say "uh-huh" as their phrase. I reported two or three villagers who were catching ridiculous phrases (a rabbit doesn't need to be saying ducky, really now) because I heard it would reset to their original, and they all ended up with "uh-huh."

It's possible that reporting doesn't always reset to "uh-huh," but in my experience, I still had to get the catchphrase prompt in order to get it back to the original.

did anyone notice that villagers obtained from someone else's town tend to keep catchphrases suggested by that person? they don't seem to return to their default.

i just remembered i made my some of villagers say rude things before i traded them out.
