I experienced this when I was playing earlier today and it was absolutely infuriating, to say the least.

I've been trying to get rid of one of my villagers, Kevin, for the longest time and he just won't leave. I've been trying all sorts of tricks that I've been reading up on, the most recent being to talk to every villager at least once and ignore the one you want to leave. So imagine how happy I was to see Kevin walking along with the thought bubble.. yet when I went over to talk to him, thinking yes finally, he just turns around and decides "loljk here have an eye mask" and walks off. Needless to say, he got some serious net to the head punishment for that one.

Has this happened to anyone else??

Yeah, it doesn't always mean they want to move out if they have a thought bubble. Sometimes they will be giving you gifts, asking you to do things, or just simply say 'whoops, I forgot'.

[EDIT whoooops Katie was faster!]

Yes, the thought bubble doesn't necessarily mean they want to move, it just mean they have an interaction to accomplish with you. Could be a move, a question, a gift...

I've been trying to get rid of Renée from the start, and she's done this to me twice hahaha

Both times was to give me a piece of furniture from her original tent too (portable radio and a sleeping bag), she's so horrible!

Do all the starter villagers do this? I think I gotten the lamp, lantern, and sleeping bag from my starters.

Probably, she was my uchi starter so I guess that would make sense

Ed does this to me every. Single. day. Sometimes twice... My heart skips a beat everytime, like "omg has the time finally come ? Is he gonna leave my island ?" But every time he's like "heey Ink, you'll never guess what... I have a PRESENT for you" and he gives me a crappy piece of clothing. I hate that. :'D

I got mine to move out yesterday, like two days after I gave her a birthday present. I think the best way to get rng on your side is just play the game more or leave it on and do laps every half hour or hour to see if anyone has thought bubbles.

I think its because you have friendship very high with them! I cycled thru almost all villagers, and only the starters with who I had high friendship, gave me objects thru bubbles. All the other bubbles for other animals to come in where move out bubbles. And now since most of my animals are new, I haven't been pinged yet for anything other than leaving.

My first camper villager asked to move 3 days after he moved in and it was the first thought bubble I had with him. I suspect it might had to do with visiting a friend island and she had a villager enter the void recently or it was just RNG.

But I never gifted him anything and I usually just ignore him, how does he see me as a friend ? :'< he should despise me. He was the mandatory smug, not even a starter.

Damn, well thanks guys. It was really disheartening to see him give me something instead of wanting to leave. :< Guess I'll have to keep trying and hope he really does leave. I don't really want him to leave because EW UGLY, it's just he has never done anything to contribute to.. well, anything. He doesn't do anything other than pick on my other villagers.. only thing he's been good for is giving me my hexagon glasses that I've become so attached to that I hate to take off!

The thought bubble doesn't always mean that they want to move.
They might just want to share a story with you, give you something, etc.

I'm not sure if they can change their mind about moving though as they could in NL.

Never had this happen. But, I did report a villager for "language" in hopes that she would get kicked out...and nothing happened. In fact, the next day, a completely different villager told me she was leaving. I kinda assumed that the "report a villager" feature was there for a quick and easy way to extricate villagers. Seems like it doesn't actually have much of a purpose at all...

I'm pretty sure reporting a villager for language just reverts their catchphrase to their default one if it is somehow changed.

Ever since the reporting feature was added to the series, all it does is remove their current catchphrase/clothing to the default one (depending on the option you've picked). The quickest way to kick someone out is with amiibo, but it's not a good idea to do that since the bug's still there.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought it would be a quick solution. Not to mention, one of my other villagers was walking around acting depressed, and when I spoke to him, he said that Sylvia (the villager I was trying to give the boot) was saying mean things to him. So...I thought that might be the answer. Oh well.

I want 70% of my population gone including Tier 1 Marina and even one of the wolf.
