[sub]i honestly have such a beef with acnl for this! scaring away fish and bugs, i get. trampling flowers, fair enough. but... dirt patches, that can't be reversed? D: they look terrible, if you're not using them for intentional dirt paths. not only that, but tripping and having your handheld objects spill/fly away, especially if they're rare.

do you ever feel like ACNL punishes you for such a simple game mechanic? what are the worst cases you've ever been bamboozled by the game?[/sub]

yes....Do u have hybrids for trade

Sorry pasted the wrong thing

The dirt patches eventually grow grass again if you don't keep running on them. I've also heard planting flowers in the spot helps the grass grow back faster, who knows but it's worth a try :)

You trip when running more on days when you have bad luck.

The bad luck / tripping days are awful and seem like punishment, but usually the rest just seems more realistic to me.

[sub]i know about the tripping, but wow, i never knew that they grow back. i always thought that i would be stuck with them forever. from what i know, though, it seems they grow back after a long, long time! i'm a cycler and i TT a LOT. usually the dirt patches left by the villager's houses grow back within a few days, but i haven't seen such marked improvement on my own dirt patches (i often abstain from running unless i need to get to the train station ASAP). i'll keep hope, though.

but i can't help feeling that running, one of the basic mechanics in most games, often gets you punished in acnl, permanent dirt patches or no. u_u[/sub]

I feel like the grass deterioration is kind of annoying, but hey, at least it grows back. My backyard has plenty of spots where grass has been trampled into oblivion to the point where only a layer sod can save it. XD I use the permanent dirt patches for a variety of things depending on size and location. They make awesome natural flower beds and add some accent to certain pwps that fit inside.

Dirt patches aren't necessarily caused by running. I have them from walking because I play a lot and I don't use paths. However, if you time travel a bit forward and back, they'll be gone. All except the permanent ones, of course. Scaring bugs and fish? That's fair. Happens in real life!

I hate tripping days!

Grass will grow back faster if you:
1. Plant flowers
2. Water the flowers
3. Don't run on it anymore. I have heard it works best if you don't walk on it AT ALL including while you are watering.

I agree with other posters, scaring away bugs and fish is realistic. Same with grass wear. But I hate trampling flowers, I wish that was removed. :(

I think the grass will grow back from planting flowers or trees on them then watering it. If you want placing paths also limit and prevent dirt paths too. And yeah I get a heart attack every time I trip, seems so unexpected sometimes xD

Ever since I found out that my grass disappears when I run, I do my best to just walk. So far, I've been doing a decent job, sometimes if I feel like I need to run (for no particular reason) I wait until I'm walking over the small stone patch in front of town hall, re-tail or by the train tracks/station. Most of my town where I walk the most is covered by flowers (gotta get those hybrids!) so I can't really tell if it's growing back or if I'm forever stuck with a dirt town...in which case I'd probably turn it into a cowboy themed town haha. But I'll have to avoid walking on the flowers to see if that would help.

um, no....this game is about time increments and the passing of time. wear & tear happens with time

I have flowers all over my town, so I never run in my town.
I am tempted to run sometimes when I'm in a hurry, but I don't want to see my flowers getting destroyed.
And dirt patches don't really fit my fairytale themed town very well...

If I'm tripping a lot I just make a point not to hold anything. Dirt patches also makes sense, if you trample grass a lot it becomes smushed/wears away over time.

Paths don't prevent the grass from turning into dirt when you run on them

you can grow back allll of your grass (minus the permanent dirt patches) if you're willing to TT. thought i'd share what I do incase you'd like to try it~

Every once in a while once the dirt starts to look bad, I'll wait for a villager pings to move out, say no (or yes) then it's possible to safely TT a month (or a couple weeks, whatever youd like) and voila. beautiful grass.
nobody will move out. however, you won't be on speaking terms with any of your villagers. you'd have to talk to every single one of them then wait for a ping to move, cause someone will want to. once you get that ping, say no (or yes), then go back to present day.

however if TTing isn't your thing, idk. D:

Do you mean does it randomly knock me down into rocks, trees, cement, dirt, sand and snow? Yes... do I feel it's intentional punishment? .... Yes.

I'm only bothered by the trampling of my flowers. I accidentally trampled some hybrids that I had spent a few days watering and tending to. This may be jinxing myself; however, I have yet to trip...:lemon:
