Empty Plot Question

If you have an empty plot, how long do you have to fill it with a villager until the game auto fills it?

I assume you have until 5am (the start of a new day), but can it ever be filled by the game before this?

for me it usually takes about a day (sometimes more) i don’t think anyone will move in until the next day ^_^

It's random in New Horizons. I think it can be 1-3 days, that's what most people have reported.

I think it might be filled beforehand if you visit another island of someone who has a villager in their void? Meaning someone moved out and they didn't visit someone with a 10-villager island to delete their void.

So if you have an empty plot it will get filled if you visit someone who has a villager in their void? And this can happen even prior to a new day starting from the day you had the empty plot?

I think so, I've read some posts that the void villager will buy the plot instantly, but I haven't experienced it for myself.

i think it works the same way as if you were to go to someone’s island and invite a villager. the plot would be sold as soon as you get back

Hmm ok, so basically on the day I have an empty plot I cannot visit anyone until i fill it with a villager from a nook miles island if I want to choose my own villagers

i’m not 100% sure but yeah i recommend not visiting anyone unless it’s to invite a specific villager

I got a void villager (Stitches), and it happened 24h after my plot got emptied. (So I still had a day to island hop, just didn't find anyone I fancied)
I did not visit anyone on that day. So it's not like Stitches appeared all of a sudden, more like the "for sale" plot got sold to a void villager instead of a random one.

I think the instant thing would have been a glitch?
