Easier way to lay paths?

I'm new to the AC series.
But there has to be an easier way than walking square by square and laying each piece. You can't walk and have the paths open at the same time?
This is so irritating and time consuming, please say there's an easier way!

okay so if you're doing 2 square wide paths, this is what I do:
x = theoretical path, o = you
Stand facing (up/north) so that it looks like that, if you were standing on east-west path:
xxxxx
xxoxx

NOW, the blocks touching you are gonna be the ones you lay down. the way paths are laid out, from where you're standing is:
center (you)
center-up (in front of you)
right-up
left-up
right-center (to your right)
left-center (to your left)
right-down
center-down (right behind you)
left-down

knowing this, if you stand where the mark is in the diagram, you can place six tiles at once and not have to move.

You can lay more than one pattern if you haven't already done that. Like if you're making a path that's 1 pattern wide, you can put 2, the area you're standing on and the area infront of you. (Or 3 depending on where you are. But other than that, that's the only way, unfortunately. It takes patience, good luck!

Thanks for your answers. Sadly my patience has ran out for tonight. I don't think I can lay anymore right now. I kept erasing the wrong ones and placing the wrong ones and AH. SO ANNOYING.

Yeah, it's annoying but it's worth it at the end. :) The absolute most annoying thing is accidentally kicking up patterns, and you're patterns are on your other characters.

I tried a beautiful path in the beginning, but kicked it up constantly. I finally had to switch to a one-square path that each character could carry! I've gotten much better now, so when I have a bit of free time I will attempt the beautiful path once again. For a few weeks I was very skittish in other towns, because I figured I'd kick up everyone's paths. I was so relieved to realize I couldn't affect them.

You can place as many as 9 tiles at a time because you're on or adjacent to them. Let's say you have a big area to lay paths down in. This is how they will fall, with 1 being where you're standing (if you're facing forward):

7 9 8
5 1 6
3 2 4

If you have something preventing a path from being put down (bush, tree, PWP, etc), the pattern will be the same, but it will skip the number that's blocked. Example, tile 4 is a tree, the placement will skip from 3 to 5. With a little practice, you'll be able to place paths faster and with fewer mistakes.

Good luck! c:
