WARNING THIS IS KINDA GROSS SO IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT SKIP DOWN TO THE OTHER PARAGRAPHI'm not even gonna sugar coat it, my ear is f***ed up. It's been hurting for like a week, and I finally told my mom last night since she had brushed it off as a zit last week (you can get zits in your ear?!)
Anyways, I have bad ears (wax and stuff) so my parents wanted to try an ear candle to see if that would help, because I don't want my chiropractor tugging on my ear to help it drain (that happened over the summer) and antibiotics are gonna take a while to workOKAY I'M DONE

Have you ever tried an ear candle? Do they work? Does it hurt? I really need to know.

Sorry for being kinda graphic, and I know this isn't a place to get 'medical advice', but I'm asking more about the ear candles.

I've never done it myself, but a friend has and said it was just really weird feeling, not necessarily painful.
There was a little mystic shop downtown that used to do it, before they were ordered to stop since it is deemed dangerous.
Little blip on it here from the Mayo Clinic: x

Edit: Weird, that link isn't working for me now. Anywho, this is what it said:
Ear candling — a technique that involves placing a lit, hollow, cone-shaped candle into the ear canal — can cause serious injury and isn't considered an effective treatment for any condition.

The theory behind ear candling, also called ear coning or thermal auricular therapy, is that the heat from the flame will create suction that draws the earwax into the hollow candle. Ear candling has also been touted as a treatment for sinus infections and as a way to improve hearing.

Research shows, however, that ear candling is ineffective at removing earwax. In fact, the technique can actually push earwax deeper into the ear canal. Ear candling can also lead to:

Deposits of candle wax in the ear canal
Burns to the face, hair, scalp, ear canal, eardrum and middle ear
Puncture of the eardrum
If you develop an earwax blockage, avoid ear candling. Instead, consult your doctor about simple steps you can take to safely and effectively remove the wax.

Literally the least graphic thing ever lol

I would listen to the above poster, badcrumbs. It doesn't sound safe

I've never tried it, but as some others have said, I've heard it can be dangerous.

If you haven't already, head to the doctor and follow their advice. c:

Have you ever tried an ear candle?
Yeah I've done it few times from my grandma (I just can't say no to her OK). I've never done it at a clinic though.

Do they work?
It worked for me, however I can't vouch it if it works at a clinic or somewhere else.

Does it hurt?
Mm, I think it comes down to experience. My grandma was very careful with the procedure so it didn't hurt at all. Again, I can't guarantee it if you get it done at a clinic.

Not promoting ear candles or anything; just posting my personal experience with it.

They actually don't work. They studied the "wax" and found it was mostly candle wax and that it didn't really burn any ear wax.

I just did some research and many sources said it didn't work. I'm surprised though, I've honestly never heard of this...

They also said that people believed that it would purify your blood or something idk ahah;;...
