I haven't seen one of these around the forums so I though I'd make one!
Please don't feel that you have to have dreamies, this guide is only if you do. And don't forget that no matter how valued Tier 1 and 2 villagers seem to be, you can use whatever villagers you like! For instance, my ultimate dreamie is Agnes, who is in Tier 5.
Obtaining your dreamies

Many of you who are struggling to collect your dreamies together will be surprised to know that this is the easy bit. The harder part comes later when you have to stop them from moving. There are many ways to collect your dreamies. You can buy them from the Villager Trading Plaza here or on another site, you can convince them to move in from your campsite, you can simply move them from one town to another, or you can plot reset.

Getting your dreamies from this site or another

Posting on a cycling thread or on the Looking For thread is the easiest way, but the least effective. What did you say?? You have MARSHAL? Oh goody, dreamie time! Just post a trading thread for Marshal and whatever dreamie you want and people will cycle for days to get your dreamie so they can have Marshal. Just be careful when doing this, most people on this forum are unlikely to scam you but it isn't impossible. Alternatively you could hold an auction to get enough money to buy your dreamie quite easily from here! What people will do for a high tier villager...

Moving dreamies in from your campsite

I'll do a step by step guide on this:

1. Check if there is a camper in your town.

2. If you have room for another villager, see who's inside. If not, STEP AWAY! You'll only upset yourself if there's a dreamie inside the tent/igloo.

3. If there is a non-dreamie inside, step out. If there is a dreamie inside, fill your pockets up with bells, and talk to them. Eventually they will consider moving to your town.

Moving from one town to another

Easy peasy. Just check you have room for the dreamie and you don't already have them, then go to the host's town, talk to the villager and invite them to your town. See, easy.

Plot resetting

This is the one most people aren't familiar with. It's particularly good if you don't care where your dreamie's houses go. Make a new file and prepare to plot reset as usual every day, even if you haven't invited anyone in. Look for a plot. If there is one, check to see if it is a dreamie. If it is a dreamie, quit without saving, and log on to your mayor. If it isn't a dreamie, quit without saving, and and start another new file. Not only will the plot change, the villager will also change. Repeat the steps above until you are satisfied.

Keeping your dreamies

Okay, so you've got all your dreamies and now you need to keep them in your town. Talk to your villagers. They will notify you if someone is moving. If you are on hiatus for a white make a note of the last time you played so you can TT to that date when you want to play again. Apart from that, there's no real trick to keeping your villagers inside your town. But wait. Do you HAVE to have the same villagers all the time? Can't you switch you the ones you're not fussed about. The answer is, you absolutely can. Apart from the pain of getting them and plot resetting for them then it's no harm at all. And you have a brand new villager. I'd recommend at least getting their picture before you let them go.

The villager line

This is the most important bit in the guide. Your tenth villager will not move out until another villagera has moved out first. In other words, if you have nine dreamies then you get a voided tenth villager, then you'll have to either keep the voided villager or move out a dreamie. To avoid this, try ordering your villagers. Make sure you obtain your ultimate dreamie last, and you'll be safe from losing that villager. Another idea is to stay in the same day once you obtain your ninth dreamie until you obtain your tenth.

Thanks for reading all this and like I said at the beginning, please don't feel like you have to have high tier dreamies or even have dreamies at all!

I don't have dreamies and I dislike that this system is forced onto everyone, which makes the new players think they should have dreamies (and also tier 1 ones). I have nothing against people trying to get certain villagers they like and picked to be in their town, but I think it shouldn't be seen as law.

I recently learned what dreamies mean, and I see it in the same way.
I have dreamies myself, because I like the look of them and I had a couple in my Wild World game.
It seems like some people may be getting dreamies to fit in. But what can you do, it's like loom bands.
There's no stopping it.

Thank you for your opinion! I appreciate you giving your opinion and I didn't see that when I read it through. Sorry for seeming pushy and I'll change it right away.

Whilst I personally am not overly fond of the whole "dreamie" and "tier"concept (yes I do understand the tier system is in place for the villager trading plaza for pricing purposes) I do think this is a fantastic guide for new players who might be looking into it. If you don't mind just a suggestion it might help to add a brief statement at the top explaining the term "dreamie", I know it seems fairly obvious but to new and younger players it may not be so. It would be a good place to reinforce that tier 1 & 2 villagers aren't everything and villages are personal. Earlier this week I saw yet another post where someone was self conscious about their town because they only had villagers they liked not the higher tiers and people had been bullying them about it, and I think detailed and comprehensive guides like this one would be the perfect place to stop these misconceptions. (just to clarify, I do think this guide is very good, this is just my opinion)

Thank you! I understand your point, and will put that in!

Good idea!! These are really useful. I should point out that the plot resetting one can be particularly frustrating, so I'd also only recommend doing that one if you have extreme patience, or if you have a veeery wide definition of a "dreamy" (I tried plot resetting for 6 HOURS once and then settled on a villager who was not even a dreamy because I hadn't even seen anything close to one yet, and then another time I broadened up my search more to "a goat or a koala", and after about an hour or so, I finally got Pashmina).

I should point out that you can also do the same method to plot reset, to check your campsite! And it works best the day after your campsite is finished, since there will be a camper everytime, where as if you don't, it'll be random whether or not there is a camper every time.

I have another tip: when I read through it, I realised it doesn't ever explain what plot resetting is and why people do it - maybe add it in as well? I think you could explain terms in spoilers, so the page isn't as long.

Thank you! I'll add the bit about plot resetting, I personally have never done it before.
I also had no idea you could reset campers! Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the idea! I'm really tired and not really up to explaining yet another aspect of dreamies, would it be alright if I just posted a link to another guide?

This is a really neat guide good job! :)

Thank you!

For me my "dreamies" change each time I change my town, so for instance my "dreamies" now for my Spooky town, are much different than my last Fairy Tale/Pastel town. And there are ultimate dreamies that I love all the time but doesn't mean I necessarily want then in my town.
