This is more like a curiosity thing, but why do some people put "no talking to my villagers" in their town rules? I mean, I understand not talking to a villager in boxes or something in case they're going to get picked up by someone else, but otherwise, why?

Not knocking anyone's rules since hey man, it's your town you do what you like, but I was just wondering.

Some people don't like the subsequent "Recently I met so-and-so from such-and-such town, it seems he's a pro listener" spam from the villager, I think.

^That.

Signatures affect it too since you'll need to introduce yourself before they will sign it.

I can see that, but I dunno', I personally like hearing about people who came and visited my town.

I personally hate the rule and don't allow people near my town who follow it.

I don't care really. It's more annoying with their 'I lived in X and I met Y who was a real Z' kinda thing.

I even get giddy when my villagers tell me about people who visited my town in their dreams. Then I'm like WHAT??? and run to the Dream Suite and ask Luna about the feed back I got.

I'm torn. On one hand, I like it when villagers tell me about people that have visited me but it's annoying and breaks my own immersion when they have a name I wouldn't name one of my own characters or town.

There's a way to reset the villagers text, and that is complaining to Isabelle about them. It doesn't affect their friendship level, either. < Or so I've heard, anyways. I've never tried that myself.

Like if a villager said something like "I met Spanky from Da Booty! They seemed like a real bell pincher!"

I don't think you can reset a villager talking about someone else, though -- I thought that Isabelle can only change their catchphrase. (She changes it to "uh-huh", by the way, not the default as a lot of people think.)

I don't know. I've never tried that, because it really doesn't bother me if villagers talk about someone.

I usually don't mind when people talk to my villagers. But when I wanna know stuff from my villagers and I'm harassing them for possible rumors of someone moving, it can get annoying having to go through that dialogue instead of the one I'm really looking for.

It does seem like a silly rule when you consider that they'll talk about people who visited in a dream. I mean, you just can't control all of this stuff. That said, my villagers still talk about a guy I let do signatures months ago, and I don't even know him. But, it doesn't bother me too much.

I don't really get what the problem with it is, but whatever. People can have whatever rules they want I guess

The only time I've gotten annoyed by a villager saying this was when I lost my town, made a new town and invited Zell out of my 2nd town into my new town and one of the first things he says is he met Jingle from Citadel. ~ Thanks Zell, not what I wanted to hear back then.

Though he's said it since and I now find it kinda cute that it's like he remembers being in my old town.
