So I was minding my own business, reading around on the update thread on here when I saw a comment pointing out how different the water looked in the trailer vs. how it is in-game. At first I brushed it off but it bothered me a lot so I went to take a peek with my game open and sure enough the difference is striking. In the trailer the water is very blue and almost cartoony. In my game it's a very subdued colour and has a lot of texture to it.

Does the ocean water change color with the seasons or are they planning to revamp the water textures? I desperately hope it's a seasonal thing as the trailer water looks like a noticeable downgrade to me.

Can anyone who TTs confirm if the ocean changes?
Did anyone else notice how weird the water is in the trailer?

Hmm, could be. Personally I've noticed it looking very different in the various weather and times of day, like how it seemingly changes in real life as well. Its brighter sometimes, darker others. More muted in cloudy and rainy weather.

I think the thing is even when it's sunny I don't remember it being that blue. 🤔

I think it looks different depending on the weather, too, and even the time of day. It can go from a normal dark blue to a sort of grey when it's stormy, but I do agree that the blue is much more saturated in the update trailer. I quite like it though, as it gives a nice summer-fun vibe :D

July also has a lot of rainbows (at least, according to my island seed), so maybe it's just a more colourful month in general?

I took some pictures at around the same time over the last few days, to make the colour changes easier to compare:

Here's the water from the trailer:

It's certainly a brighter blue than the 9:29 am picture, but not by much. The texture/graphic still looks the same, at least to my eyes.

For some reason, recorded videos of ACNH also look different than they do in the game in terms of texture.

I've seen the ocean be a really bright blue earlier in the morning. The light and weather really affects how it looks this time.

The videos are lower quality, you can look at the rocks to see they're blurry compared to the in-game screenshots. The differences are probably just the compression on the video, though it's possible July will bring slightly brighter sea.
