You would be surprised how many people think Northern Canada has an extremely cold climate and constantly had snow. Infact it was one of my relatives who lived in southern America who told us this and also one of my geography teachers who has worked across North America. But you are right, anyone with any knowledge of simple geography would know better and you can always expect some people to just not care and believe these "facts."
