does going to the same island over and over count for dodo items?

i know to get dodo items, one must travel. but does going to the same island (my friend's) over and over counts?

I think it does. I think going to Nook Islands count as well. My girlfriend only visits me and other Nook Islands and shes getting the dodo rewards.
