Yes! You can start with any villager except for Uchis or Smugs.

Villagers are randomized. There's no rarity in the game. Like others say, its a 1 out of 333 chance of getting a certain villager.

yeah I started out with Tia when I reset the other day so it's definitely possible

I've never seen a town start with any of the octopus villagers.I don't know if it's just not possible or the odds are too great but I've never seen it,and I've reset a lot of towns.I have seen cows as starting villagers and there's only three of them in the game just like the octopuses.

when i was resetting my game to get dreamies (which took a long time, but i finally got lolly and beau and i was satisfied), one of the towns i was in had tia in it so my answer is yes, but as said by everyone else, there are some villagers i don't think you can start with.

I had Tipper the cow as a starting 5 in a reset town. She was really nice. I have never seen an octopus as a starting 5. Has anyone had an octopus as a starting 5? Are the rumors true?
