I don't think I've seen anyone on the forums mention much about musical theater, so I've decided to pop the question.

I'm still pretty new to it myself, i just got into it about sometime in February last year, but I really love it. I recently went to go see a high school production of Chicago (which was super amazing, the school i went to go see it at is one of the best in my state), and i'm really hoping i can go see Les Miserables at a nearby opera house.

So, do like theater? If so, what are some of your favorite musicals? Do you take drama classes?

Haha yes, I tried to start a thread about doing plays in school and stuff around a longgggg time ago, but nobody replied xD

I have acting classes for 2 years now,i enjoy it to bits,i'd love to do a musical ^^I went to broadway in 2010 and saw Mary Poppins and i loved it.I don't wanna sound snobbish but i got main role two times in a row (After several supporting roles)

I used to be a huge musical theater buff all throughout high school. I wish that I took some drama classes, but I don't have a single acting bone in my body. I used to sing (also pretty poorly), and I had friends who really loved musical theater, so I took after them. I'm not as obsessed as I once was, but I still love listening to the music.

My favorite musical overall is probably Next to Normal, but I have a soft spot for stage design and songs of The Light in the Piazza. I also used to be obsessed with anything Jason Robert Brown, mostly for the lovely piano songs. I've seen The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked on Broadway, Next to Normal on tour, and The Last 5 Years revival off-Broadway. Wish I could see more, but tickets are waaay too expensive, haha.

Aw! It's really rare to find people who like theater.

Haha, I know, it's always a little embarrassing to say you like "Drama". When I was 11 I got cast as Stuart Little in Stuart Little, so that was cool. And ever since I've done a lot of theater. This year at my high school I had fun playing Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof.

Aw,nice! It doesn't sound snobbish at all, it's definitely something to be very proud of. This year was my first year being in a show, and i tried out for Miss Dorothy from Thoroughly Modern Millie and ended up being cast as her.

I've heard of Next to Normal, i can't pinpoint where exactly, but I'll definitely check it out. So lucky you got to see both Wicked and The Last Five Years (my favorite song from that musical is Summer in Ohio).

i think i watched the music man or whatever its name was but thats it
i do wish i could see some more musicals tho

Haha, I understand. I'm definitely not a fan of the other meaning of drama. Stuart Little seems like it would be a really fun role to play, and it's great you got to play Fredka! I'll be heading onto high school next year, so I'm really excited to become a part of the troupe.

YEEEEEEES

Musical theatre is my life

I have seen way too many to even list so yea oops

I didn't take classes because my acting skills are close to perfection, so I see no point.

Yes, but I like theatre only from a spectators point of view. :) It's not something I'd want to get involved in.

Best experience was seeing The Lion King in London.

My favorite musicals that I've seen live are:
Le Petit Prince (it's amazing, full of deep meaning and it will make you cry, I swear watch it, it's on Youtube with english subs.) I was a kid when I went to the show and resaw it again much later on DVD. It has a lot of things to teach adults.

Cats (it's also on youtube and it's fun) I was also a kid and I was so impressed by it!

I love theatre! I have a BFA in theatre. I studied performance but I mostly focus on stage management. Professional shows I've seen: The Lion King on tour, Cirque du Soleil's Varekai, Tears of Heaven (an original Korean musical with Brad Little *amazing*) and the international tour of The Phantom of the Opera. I've seen/been in tons of community theatre, high school, and university theatre.

I assume most people that post here are younger so it's sad that more aren't into live theatre or musicals. If you get the chance to work on a show I highly recommend it, even if you are just in the chorus or a crew member, being a part of a show is a great experience.

I also hope that's a joke. Cause it's funny.

Oh other favorites of mine are Oklahoma!, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Urinetown, The Producers and tons more... those are just off the top of my head.

I saw Cirque du Soleil this year, I didn't know it classified as musical theatre though... I loved it. Their show this year was based on the elements and chinese acrobacy, it was stunning.

Yeah some Cirque du Soleil shows could count as musical theatre because it combines elements of songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance to tell a story but I guess it's not what you would consider traditional musical theatre. It's self-described as a "dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment." The performers are in a different league. I'd love to see more, I hope I can catch another one of their tours. :D

I've been wanting to see the Cirque du Soleil for quite some time. Unfortunately, the closest one to me is about 2 hours away, and i can never seem to catch it in time because they travel so much.

Yes! I definitely have a much higher appreciation for plays than musicals, however if I had to pick a favorite musical for the sake of this thread, I would certainly go with the musical adaptation of
Spring Awakening.

I also have no inclinations to act, I just really appreciate watching.
