Doctor Who tonight

I am so very hyped for tonights episode.
Cybermen are back, Neil Gaiman is back and the episode is apparently going to be a scary one, which Doctor Who has not done in quite a while.

Alright.

Military!Clara is awesome. I love her.

Cyber!Doctor is awesome.

I hate the damn children though.

I am freaking out. The next episode. my lord. oh my lord

The season finale was amazing! I won't say anything else about it otherwise I will be a fountain of spoilers!
But I am so looking forward to the 50th anniversary episode, especially as I'll be able to watch it in 3D on our new telly :)

I loved the episode. I have a few things that I want to mention about the episode in spoilers.

I LOVED THE BEGINNING WITH CLARA AND THE OTHER DOCTORS.

Trenzalore looks amazing omg.

So the TARDIS is like a dying star.

I love the ghost of River. Or Jenny for that matter.

Oh. Good. I'm typing this as I go along. Jenny is alive, that's quite pleasant.

OH MY GOD IT'S THAT LITTLE ***** FROM THE SNOWMEN.

"Do not divulge military secrets!" I love Straax so much.

Mister G. Intelligence lol

Ah there it is. Spoilers and sweetie :D

HOW THE HELL DID THIS NOT CAUSE THE DOCTOR TO REGENERATE. HOW THE **** DID THIS NOT CAUSE HIM TO REGENERATE GOD DAMN IT.

oh. it's a to be continued.

GOD DAMN IT. To be continued. grumble

I guess this means that Matt Smith is the final doctor, kinda lame

Timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly, yadda-yadda... I'm sure there will be a canon-frakking way to keep DW going. I mean, hey, if a bloody magic potion can bring back the Master... (Still bitter about that. So stupid. So trite.)

Anyway. Let's be realistic. DW is a cash cow for the BBC. Even though the budgets for this season were scaled back, they are milking it on merchandise and will continue to do so with all the fervor of the 50th anniversary. They will not let a mere trifling detail like the most crucial element of the canon end the gravy train! -_-

And honestly, if the BBC ended it I would bet BBC America would pick it up. America tried it before, after all. (Unsuccessfully.)

(Bitter) Thoughts on season finale/50th special under the cut:

Yeah, sorry, but no. John Hurt is not the Ninth Doctor. He's 8*. It... no. Just, no. Can you tell I'm bitter about the canon-frakking?! Ugh. I'm trying reserve as much judgment as I can, but... no no no. No. NO.

Like I said above, BBC won't pull the brakes and an eighth season has already been commissioned, so obviously we know the Doctor will pull through somehow. So whatever. I guess I should reserve judgment, but I'm going into the special with a boatload of skepticism.

I did love seeing Clara with all the previous Doctors, but I wish they had included more with Nine and Ten. I suppose we'll get that during the special. Well, Ten for sure. I'm still hoping and praying that the news about Eccleston declining an appearance is a huge red herring. Same for Barrowman. They'd have to, like, smuggle them into the set in windowless box trucks or something to pull it off. And make them wear disguises in Cardiff. Or just not leave their hotel rooms. :/

Clara's period costumes! :D Oh man, cosplayers will have a field day with them!

I also think this is the first time we've seen The Doctor really get emotional in a long time. And that kiss... oh my. Matt Smith was great in this episode.

OH AND ALL THE FEELS WITH VASTRA/JENNY. ALL THE FEELS. That line Vastra had about hearts... ALL. THE. FEELS.

So, like always, I'm skeptical. But excited all the same.

12 regenerations means 13 Doctors. So no, the next Doctor would be the final one.
River Song gave him more regenerations anyway. Even then the 12 regeneration rule has always been kind of arbitrary considering The Master reached his end and then was given 12 more regenerations by Time Lords.

Yeah, sorry, but no. John Hurt is not the Ninth Doctor. He's 8*. It... no. Just, no. Can you tell I'm bitter about the canon-frakking?! Ugh. I'm trying reserve as much judgment as I can, but... no no no. No. NO.

Take special note of the date of the article as well.

I heard John Barrowman is in Dr. Who and suddenly got interested. Where and who is he?
Pansexual time traveller.

Barrowman plays Captain Jack Harkness. Without being too spoilery, he's a friend of the Doctor's who has some... unique qualities. :D

He's brash, he's omnisexual and damn proud of it, he's cunning, he's loyal, he's a brawler, and he's witty. He's awesome.

After his travels with the Doctor, he sets up in Cardiff, Wales in a super-secret UK alien monitoring organization called Torchwood, short for The Torchwood Institute. Torchwood the TV show was a spin-off of Doctor Who that starred Barrowman and featured a few crossover DW characters and plots.

The best way to discover his character is to start with the earliest season of nu-Who and go from there. His character is introduced in the episode The Empty Child in that season. But start with the first episode, Rose, of course. You don't need to know classic DW canon to start nu-Who, at least not at first. Later on you may want to.

So he's in Torchwood, too? I might have to get into these shows!

He pretty much IS Torchwood! heh. Yes, it's time to get into both. Just try to watch in order, and I hope you avoid spoilers. It may be impossible to avoid the biggest spoiler about his character, but I hope you do. It's worth it. :D

ETA: Both shows are on Netflix, if that helps. Start with Doctor Who first though!

Man, I wish I had Netflix haha. Barrowman's a great actor, definitely one of my favorites.

Yeah, he's great.

One important detail about Torchwood. It was considered the "adult" spinoff of DW and has ~sexytimes~ in it of many varieties, so don't watch it when your Gramma's around.

Anyone watched The Name of the Doctor? Any opinions?

I really enjoyed it and look forward to the 50th Anniversary. Thought it tied up the Clara story very well
John Hurt!
