Something I find interesting about my cockatiel is that she likes to eat at the same time as us. Her cage (that has her bowl of food in it) is in another room from where we eat, but if she hears us eating, she'll start eating too. If she's not in her cage and sees or hears us eating, she'll want to go back in to eat. I think this is super cute, because she can eat anytime she wants to. We just give her food first thing in the morning and she has it available to her all day.

Do your pets eat when you eat?

I get up and feed my pets right away cause the cats scream at the food bowl in the morning even if there's still some left over from last night. They want the bowl to be full apparently lmao. And my big rabbit Anastasia free roams so she will follow around anyone who wakes up first. I've tried to wait a bit before feeding her breakfast but she will straight up bite the back of anyone's legs if she's forced to wait for food.

Yes, one of the cats I take care of eats whenever I do. I think it’s cute and funny at the same time. : P

My cat eats at random times of the day and multiple times a day. Sometimes she'll have a bite when we're all at the table.

My dog's a very good little guy and since he has dry food we leave it out for him and he just tends to snack on it throughout most of the day. Never seen a dog with so much self-control when it comes to food lol. So he doesn't tend to eat at the same time as me, just whenever he feels like it I guess.

No, my animals always prefer to beg while we're eating and eat their own food separately. 😝

I only have the one dog currently, but I feed him a small breakfast after our walk first thing in the morning. I do not eat breakfast at all. Then, he gets dinner after our evening walk as soon as I get off work. We eat dinner about 1-2 hours later.

For my previous dog, I used to leave his food down all day because he was good about controlling his intake. But he didn't follow our schedule either. He preferred to eat in the afternoon around 2-3pm and then again around midnight before going to bed.

When we had our cat, she would wake me up earlier and earlier each morning to feed her. I am not a morning person, so I nipped that problem in the bud by changing her feeding time from the morning to midnight. She seemed very satisfied with that.

As far as begging goes, I don't mind that my animals watch me eat. I just set boundaries, like they have to stay on the floor, no whining or barking, no trying to steal food, and if they follow the rules they get rewarded with something safe for them to eat at the very end.

The reason birds in the parrot family enjoy eating with their humans is that they're social eaters and it's simply part of their normal social and bonding behavior. Every bird I've had from a tiny parakeet to an eclectus parrot (rescued), all want to eat if you're eating, and it's actually a very important ritual for them to engage in with you. For me, this always meant planning bird friendly meals if I was going to be eating in my room or when they were out of their cage(s). My parakeet was the only bird that was well trained enough to be a free flying bird that would fly to you on command. Everyone else had their wings clipped.

Canines tend to be social eaters in the sense that some eat first, others next, and so on and so forth. It's a bit like waiting for their turn in the chow line. I've read and seen that most dog trainers say it's best that you eat first before you give your dog their food, but that theory is possibly being debunked by current behavioral research.

Felines beg because they can...even if they don't even want what you're eating.

Rodents love food and are super inquisitive about everything. I know when I had pet rats, they would always want some of whatever I was having.

My two feline overlords usually eat at certain times of the day that I've chosen, so they're pretty well programmed, or rather, I'm well programmed! Who knows at this point lol.

My dog just wants to eat whatever is on my plate anytime anyday, never interested in what’s in her own bowl. But yes, generally she does eat the same time as me.

Nope. I have two cats. They have food down all day...they eat when they want to. They're also indoor/outdoor cats...so they come and go, and sometimes they go outside all day and then complain for food at night. Usually they cry at like 2am to be fed...even when there is food down for them. I think they like people to watch them eat. Lol.

Not at all! My cat gets wet food first thing in the morning about 6am while I'm getting ready for work, as well as the fish (I'm down to one now though :/), but I'm not really a breakfast eater. I get home around 6:30pm, and feed him some dry food. I usually eat dinner around 7-7:30pm. If it's a night my leopard gecko is due for some food, I'll usually feed the fish and my gecko right before I go to bed anywhere from 9-11pm. We are all definitely on individual meal times 😆

However, my mom's dogs DO eat whenever she/we are eating, and I find that hilarious.

no. My dogs eat early and they eat around 5 pm before we eat dinner. Good part that my dogs would remind us when its food time because we do forget sometimes.

My cat gets fed 5 times a day. She doesn't know how to pace herself and will throw it up if we don't space it out. So her 1st meal is during my breakfast and her 3rd meal is lunch. Sometimes her 4th meal is after work or around our dinner time.

Before my cat passed, we'd usually eat dinner together but she'd always, always want breakfast at like 5am and I wasn't about to eat that early lol.

Usually my cat does because I feed him around the same time I eat each breakfast and lunch, but he uses a puzzle feeder so he only eats a little bit at a time and comes back to it later when he gets bored.

9-10am and then again at 5:30pm. I usually eat closer to 7-8pm and she'll sit and stare at us until the end of the meal and she will bork a few times. My family members have given in to feeding her at the table occasionally so she has developed bad habits. Now I usually put a few pieces of her food in her kong toy during dinner so she wont bother us.

nope. the time that I eat varies from day to day buy I always feed my dog at the same time every day (first at ~10am and again around 6-7pm). as for the cats, they always have food in their bowl so they don't have a set feeding time.

My dog has food down all day and the food bowl gets picked up at night, so she eats a few kernels at a time throu out the day. If she sees someone in the kitchen preparing food she'll eat some kernels, like if I'm making my lunch or my dad preparing dinner. However when we all eat dinner she waits cause for dinner (and apparently my dad's breakfast) afterwards she gets human food. She'll also get some of my mom's lunch after she's done eating. When I give her food for dinner it's always after I'm done eating.

Also she has this random habit of eating like 1 or 2 kernels before going out on a walk.
