Do You (Unlike Most People In My Generation) Like The Outdoors?

Do You Like The Outdoors?

I'm not gen z but I do love the outdoors. Unfortunately I don't have much motivation (as in an actual reason) to go outside, but that is changing soon with veggie growing next year. I need to be outside, it's healthier.

Before moving where I am now, I'd walk my dogs from time to time, but I feel it is too dangerous where I am at since my dogs are 10 pounds and under and everyone's free roaming dogs are 50 pounds and +++

As a kid, I was outside constantly before my mom got super controlling when I got older (story for another time). I was also one of those kids who couldn't keep shoes on for anything. 🙃
We call those kids a wild child 🌼

When I was in girl scouts for bit, we went camping and I loved that.

I love traveling, so I guess you could say I like the outdoors to an extent. I prefer long distance train travel to take in the scenery. I never enjoyed activities like camping or hiking, though. I believe that’s what most people mean when they refer to the outdoors, so with that description, probably not.

Millennial here, not Gen Z. I prefer going outdoors than staying in a large city. Living in a large city can be suffocating. The noise, the pollution, the people...so going to the countryside and getting out of the city can be liberating.

I grew up in an era with little indoor entertainment(no internet, cable television, cellphones, computers or video games)so I spent a lot of time outdoors finding things to do.Fortunately I lived in a semi-rural area so there was a lot of stuff to explore and things to see. When I got older I did a lot of fishing and camping.I liked the fishing but the camping not so much.It was just nice to be in a forest with clean air.

I’m in the oldest of gen Z. I don’t think it’s that we have any particular dislike for the outdoors but that we don’t get as many chnces to go outdoors. Parks are more gentrified, more litter in natural spots, more urbanisation altogether over natural areas. Etc. And expected to do a huge amount of work that leaves less free time etc.

I love the outdoors but there are very few spots for it here. Even some nature reserves have a lot cut down and crap like football fields in them. I want to be AWAY from people. There’s not much I can explore. My yard is the best and I go on walks regularly. In terms of more untamed stuff or forests- there just isn’t a choice for me unless I’m willing to drive incredibly far.

I enjoy being out in nature when biking or hiking. And also being out on the water/in the water.

I'm not a city person at all.

This is great to see, almost everyone replying to this post loves the outdoors. It definitely gives me a bit of hope in humanity :)

Maybe I just care cause I live in the middle of the forest and my brother is the true definition of “wild child”

I couldn’t agree more, great statement

I'm Gen Z
however, I'm confused of what people exactly mean when they say they "love the outdoors"
I don't travel, go camping, hiking or any outdoor activities like that but I love going outside to get Vitamin D and exercise
it's really hot here so I can't go out all the time as much as I like, need to be careful when it's hot out
You just have to realize that going outside and just climbing a tree, going fishing, maybe even using a stick as a sword sometimes. Is doing what everyone always did before there were computers and hi-tech gaming consoles.

I’m very fortunate to live in such an area where I can live what is shown in videogames, fishing. Riding four-wheelers, shooting guns at targets (I’m not a big hunting person, but I like shooting guns), and just enjoying the outdoors.

Sadly, with so many big cites and not a lot of people having those experiences, people in this generation are mostly trapped inside or in the city where it’s impossible to do what I do. And that makes me pretty sad.

I'm not Gen Z, but I LOVE the outdoors! My generation growing up had video games, TV, internet (early internet but still, we had it lol), but we still played outside quite a bit. My family also heavily involved me in outdoor activates, so I've done practically everything: hiking, horse back riding, fishing, camping, biking, inner-tubing, cave tours, riding four-wheelers etc.

I have a lot of fond memories associated with the outdoors and would love to take a vacation to a national park or go skiing/snowboarding one day as I've never done those before XD

Not everything is glamorous about the outdoors though 😅 The 2 things I hate most are 1) it being too hot/getting sweaty from it being too hot and 2) MOSQUITOS 💀

That’s great! I’m glad a lot of people have been replying saying they like the outdoors! If you up for it, I recommend snowmobiling one day.

I'd definitely be up for it! I live in a very dry, humid state so we almost never experience snow or remotely cold temperatures (except for the odd cold front every now and then)

I’m Gen-Z too (on the cusp…born 1996), and I LOVE being outside. During the pandemic I took a lot more walks on trails, at parks, etc. I live close to a big nature trail that leads into a wooded area, as well as a wildlife area, so I’m fortunate enough to enjoy them. I also like taking photos of trees, flowers, abandoned buildings….(one of the trails goes through a ghost town)
I also enjoy seeing animals outside. Ducks, geese, herons, bunnies, etc. I also enjoy birdwatching. It’s one of my favorite activities on a nice, cool day.

I don’t really like going outside during the day, I much prefer to go outside at night so I can gaze at the stars and moon. ⭐🌛

I was born towards the end of Gen-X, but I also love the outdoors. I grew up in a rural mountainous area, so I spent a lot of my childhood climbing trees, rolling down hills, hiking through the woods, and running barefoot through fields. I don't do most of those things anymore, but I still enjoy a nice walk outside to relax after a stressful day. I love nature and animals so being surrounded by them makes me happy.

I liked camping when I was younger too, but I need to have some amenities. I don't mind camping in a modest RV or in a designated campsite with restrooms close by, but I don't want to truly 'rough it.'

I'm also not fond of extreme weather. I prefer to stay indoors during colder temperatures, heatwaves, or storms.

My permanent address is in a very rural area, it's a small house in the middle of fields of crops with a lake close by. During the pandemic, I enjoyed watching on the porch by the lakeside while crocheting or studying, it gives me a huge sense of peace and motivation. I also frequently jogged every afternoon, it's really nice passing by so much greenery and farm animals (cows, goats, ducks, etc.) and it's definitely more quiet than the city.

However, my current address is in the city because that's where I'm currently studying. I would've really loved to stay in the rural area, but I got a scholarship at my dream school in the city and it really helps my family cut educational costs. Nowadays the only places I can really go to are malls and some small parks. Nothing quite like the peaceful life in the rural area, but I've chosen this path mainly for my education.

At the end of the day, I don't really like judging anyone for living the way they want to, or living the way they can right now. It's good to go out of your comfort zone, but let's not put down others for whatever they prefer to do with their lives. And honestly, the greater outdoors isn't all that super appealing to me; I used to do research work in my Ecology majors and I struggled having to fight through all the insects and thorny plants and rocky roads. Plenty of places where you can hurt yourself, lol. I guess it's part of the experience, but it's not an experience I particularly enjoy (I'm kinda delicate in a lot of physical aspects jdhfkjsd).

Depends on what 'the outdoors' means!

I love going for walks. I could see myself enjoying hiking. Camping is fun so long as there's bathrooms within walking distance

Not a zoomer. I'm not big on the great wild outdoor activities and the only possibility if it's a glamping experience. I'm a city person.

I do enjoy exploring small trails, viewing archeological sights, national parks and even recreational parks, just no thanks to camping. I'm not landlocked either as I live by the ocean, with lakes and other outdoorsy things. I just prefer to be indoors and near technology.

Not a zoomer, but yeah I do especially in the summer. Sadly most other seasons are rather crappy.

Not like, hiking or camping stuff but just be outside, talking a walk, play some PoGo o whatever.

Aahhh… you just reminded me about another disappointment. Light pollution 😞 I remember even as a kid I said the sky was “glowing” at night, and I could hardly see any stars… Eventually, I stopped seeing any as a kid, then I noticed there were just a couple when we drove out half an hour- then I stopped seeing them there, too. I can’t count stars anymore. I just don’t see them in the sky anymore. It’s depressing.

One of my dreams is to go to the middle of nowhere and look up at stars in the “wild” and play some of my favorite ethereal music. Look up pictures of stars without light pollution. I wanna know what that’s really like.

I will say: nothing is quite like going for a walk, hitting sunset/the golden hour and coming back just before or just as it gets dark. That’s so comfy.
