Although I'm still very skeptical on this mobile app version, I'll be right there when they release it and I'll be there when (or if) they release a Switch version. It'll probably be the only reason I buy one tbh. I can't say for sure if I'll continue with New Leaf, just depends on if the new versions can top it.
For me, I already gave up on Animal Crossing: New Leaf for good. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it quite a lot and it's certainly one of the strongest 3DS titles out there. But even with the surprise Welcome amiibo upgrade, there's only so much it could retain my interest like pretty much every other video game out there.
I did experienced everything the game has to offer, but I only collected most of the items in the game. The thing is, I've reached to the point where obtaining the majority of the missing items is more about "grinding" than anything. Most of those items aren't even too difficult to obtain, but it's still a very time-consuming affair because of the drip-feed nature of the game. I don't care if it's a relaxing game, but the point is, I'm at the state where I'm not really achieving anything meaningful enough to keep myself convinced to play any longer.
Although I'm waiting for the Switch installment of Animal Crossing to come, New Leaf isn't over just yet. Yes, it might not be in the mainstream public's attention anymore, but the ever-diminishing fanbase still won't show any sign of slowing down. And that's even accounting of the ageing hardware of 3DS, which many TBT users owned at some point in their life alongside with ACNL. I've never seen a lot of people owning a Wii U due of the lack of a mainline Animal Crossing title, yet the console had a quality-over-quantity library of games before Nintendo started to port several games to 3DS and the upcoming Switch.
Until Switch's library has a healthy amount of retail games by the time the second financial year is done, another mainline Animal Crossing title would eventually be confirmed. At that moment, the fanbase will rush in for Switch and the next installment after the latter is launched, for months to come.
No, its anything but over. When the mobile app is finally out they may do a collab with the towns we have on our 3DS. and hopefully in the future they release a game on the Switch which uses data from the old 3DS towns. Since This game doesn't have a 'ending' it should be used as a casual get away forever <3
Even if a Switch game is announced, they'll only take their sweet time with it like they did New Leaf, so we have plenty of time to still enjoy NL. : )
