Do you think Nintendo will come out with a newer version of New Leaf soon?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this discussion. But it's been a while since they released a AC game. Release dates as follows:

2001 - Animal Crossing
2005 - Wild World
2008 - City Folk
2012 - New Leaf

So they seem to be releasing a new game every 4 years! Please Ninetendo! 2016!!!

I assume HHD and other Wii games are spin off games here.

I really don't think Animal Crossing Wii U is going to become a reality or that another version for the 3DS is necessary as Nintendo always seem to stick with one version per generation (see titles such as Mario Kart).

However, Animal Crossing NX? Sure, why not? :P

With HHD and Amiibo Festival it might take a little longer for the next game to be ready.

Happy Home Designer just ripped the character models out of New Leaf.

The thing that bugs me is that Amiibo Festival and the short-lived Animal Crossing Plaza thing had all the characters nicely rendered so a lot of the work had already been done to make Animal Crossing Wii U exist, quite frankly.

I really hope Nintendo does, I'm ready to get addicted to another game of Animal Crossing. Currently obsessed with New Leaf and HHD ^-^

tbh, i hope it won't be for a while. i probably won't even play it. it's probably going to be on a console, and i'm not big on those. plus i'd probably have to buy the console just to play the new AC game. there's no reason i won't get bored of it. this happened with our xbox 360. portal 2 was fun for a while but other than me playing that on rare occasions, no one ever uses it, so it just ended up being wasted money.
it's already like this with amiibo festival, bc i'd have to pay 60 dollars for the game plus a wii u to play a single game on. i also prefer handheld systems over consoles. i can't exactly explain why, but the point is, if there's a new AC game i probably won't be able to play it for several reasons, which will lead to me being out of touch with everyone else.

but of course, that's just me being broke and picky. maybe when i'm old enough to actually get a job and earn my own money things will be different.

Aww, I know what you mean. These games are super expensive when I wasn't working. I always asked for them on my birthday or Christmas. I know it's very much a luxury item.

I also completely agree with you about handheld device. The beauty of it is that you can be commuting, traveling or whatever and can still play the game. Don't have to be tied to your TV screen.

"Happy Home Designer" is the successor to "New Leaf."

I don't think "Happy Home Designer" is close to being as engaging as "New Leaf." (I read one forum member state he/she likes collecting the Amiibo Cards more than playing "Happy Home Designer.")

I believe combining aspects of "Happy Home Designer" (the design work for one's town being more easily accessible) and "New Leaf" (the very concept of running a town as mayor) would work. (I would like to have flexibility of doing a layout of a town where I organize where houses can be located and where the Public Works Projects would be. It would be less frustrating. I don't think people would miss plot-resets of incoming villagers. And it would be more rewarding.)

I actually think it's less rewarding because then it would not be as hard to achieve a perfect town with the layout you want. I the challenge of it keeps a lot of people going and lets us marvel at those that can do it.

Just my thought, obvi. i'm super frustrated too when i plot reset. I had to do it like.. 90 times before I got Mint to move into a "DECENT" spot.. it wasn't even the exact spot i wanted.

Wasn't HHD just a spin-off of New Leaf? Not even close to a "successor"

If we do get a true successor to ACNL, it will probably be on whatever the next gen handheld console is. The kind of gameplay we got with ACNL is best for handheld devices, not home consoles. So whenever Nintento announces a new handheld, that's when I would start to be on the lookout for AC announcements.

I have 4 towns but I would gladly welcome a new ACNL-based game in the near future. I'd be excited to see which villagers remain, which will retire, new features, etc.

ACNL is 4 years old. Imo it's about time for a true successor to be announced.

*Raises hand* That was me.

I was really looking forward to Happy Home Designer, but it was a huge letdown. I'm willing to try any future games as long as they're on handhelds, whether they're regular Animal Crossing games or other spin-offs. I think we'll be waiting another couple of years, though.

I thought it came out in June 2013. In the US, anyway. So it's not quite 3 years old.

I hope so :) I wouldn't put down new leaf though, would just play them side by side.
Would be exciting to see another 3ds release of AC :) for me anyway haha

I believe if we were to get a new AC then it would be really cool if when someone new was going to plot, Isabelle would want us to directly go to the town hall where you meet the new villager. From then on, you go with the villager and plot where you would like their house.

It would also be really cool if like HHD, each villager had a front garden which was entered first before entering the villagers house and customized to each villagers style.

There should be more PWP's introduced and it would be even better if PWP's could be used in the front gardens.

I really hope some of the Gamecube villagers such as Maddie and Claude who made a return in HHD, return back into the main series games!

OOOH! Customizing your house should be similar to HHD where you can directly move any furniture you have in your characters posession into the room and move it about with the touch screen!

I really hope so. I love new leaf so damn much but I just cannot wait for another game.
New characters, new EVERYTHING.
I am so excited. I really hope they do.....
I will be so disappointed if they do not.

I mean part of me wishes for it to be a while and for them to really work on it and for it to be freaking amazing....

And the other part of me is DYING for them to hurry the heck up already. I just want a new adventure and to play in both new leaf and whatever the new one is called.

I am VERY disappointed that they didn't put a new one out this year... HHD was NOT a main game......

I was very upset..

i really doubt there's going to be an 'updated' version of new leaf for the 3ds, unless hhd counts. sure, there was an updated version of the gamecube version of animal crossing, but 1) that was only available in japan, and 2) we haven't really had anything like that since. so chances are, they're going to make a new ac game for either the wii u or nx. i hope it'll be for the wii u, but it's probably more likely to be on the nx.
