do you all feel like modern/tech pieces will come to us incrementally throughout the game as we advance, via (free) DLC ?

if so ! what modern/tech things are you most looking to have back or what new things are you most excited to potentially see?

here's my thoughts: i'm one of those players that adores all the modern/tech furniture and items. so i'm.....struggling with nh a lot rn. but as i was playing the other day a realization occurred to me -

new horizons is very much about growing your island from the utmost beginnings. there's literally nothing on this island when you arrive aside from a suspiciously in tact airport. it would be unreasonable for us to have instant access to most of modernity or to be able to craft it. if the game developers are trying to simulate the idea of a town growing and advancing (evidenced by the first 4 villagers houses vs later ones) they would conceivably limit the items in the beginning to those that actually fit into the story arc. there are some modern features but essentially everything other than celeste items are at a v basic level of technology. which makes....sense. its not actually specifically targeting me, it just feels like that (modern street lamps, oh how i miss you so 😭)

Hmm, I don't really agree with you that everything aside from Celeste's items are at a basic level of technology. I mean, Celeste's items are all vaguely mystical/magical in nature which, imo, bypasses mundane technological progression straight out the gate. There are also espresso machines, toilets (which implies sanitation infrastructure), mecha, and other gadgets. There's also the kitschy and ironic Throwback series, which I find the most intriguing because the word "throwback" implies the existence of a shared past, one that our resident rep could possibly be aware of. If anything, our islands do not seem pre-modern, but post-modern.

That being said, probably the first DIY your character learns is the recipe for a campfire. This doesn't necessarily mean the devs had intentions of primitive reenactment for the player, though. It might just be a nod to our tropes of desert island survival. Or maybe it does signify something more. Fire symbolizes both rebellion and invention - maybe the resident rep is Prometheus! In which case, it might make sense for us to be the creators of a world where stereos and magic wands exist simultaneously, and sometimes fall from trees.
