Do you think it would be worth it to rebuy?

This might not be the right place to post this, so sorry if it isn?t.

My house recently burnt down to the ground. My family and I are okay, but I lost literally everything I own including all of my Animal Crossing games, amiibo cards (I had a complete collection) and figurines. I?m pretty beside myself in this whole situation. I just keep thinking about everything I lost, and idk what to even do. I had two New Leaf towns that I spent years working on. One of my towns was pretty much complete. I had so much progress, and now it?s gone forever.

I guess the only thing I can do now is restart, but I feel like it almost isn?t worth it. I kind of feel like giving up on games period because it would be too much to get back. I?d have to buy a whole new console and game which would take months since I have to focus on other things first, and with the Switch coming out it would be a waste anyways. But at the same time I still think about my towns and wish I could restart. So I guess I?m asking people?s opinions. If you were in this situation what would you do? :/

Also I know this is a dumb thing to think about in this situation but I have no control over anything in this situation except for my own belongings so that?s all I can try to make up for while my family handles everything else.

It’s nobodies business how you deal with grief, and I think venting and trying to find control over the situation is normal ! Of course you miss your belongings and are pondering on regaining them, what else could you do? I feel bad you apologized for it ! :(

I’m very sorry to hear about the fire in general, and I’m glad everyone was alright !!

If I was in your situation, I would probably just vent it out all in a post and then let go—-You’re right that the next game comes out soon and honestly buying a new 3ds could be close to the amount of the switch anyway. It’s only a couple months until NH, and since you said you’d be waiting months anyway, there’s no point. There’s a new horizon out there for you ! You can get a great restart when the new game drops and move forward in your life. :) and you won’t have to compare it to what you had before, since it’ll be totally new.

However, if you do end up buying a 3ds and NL again, I’ll personally help you for free regain what you lost !!

I'm so sorry that this happened to you! If I was in your situation I would have the same thoughts going through the back of my mind; I would want some level of control as well and I would want to feel like myself again by sorting out/regaining some of my belongings!

If it were up to me I would wait until AC:NH comes out and not get AC:NL again - especially if you have to wait months to buy a new console and game, only to likely abandon it shortly after for AC:NH. But if you think you would continue to play AC:NL even after the release of the switch game, it might be worth it! Personally I know I can only devote my energy to one game at a time, but if you are able to play both and would always miss AC:NL then it is not a waste to buy it again.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry this happened to you, but I'm glad that you and your family are all okay.

As for my advice, I think that if you intend to play New Horizons when it comes out, it probably makes more sense to save up for a Switch and that game versus rebuying a DS and New Leaf. By the time you got back into New Leaf, New Horizons would almost be ready for release. You could possibly find another game to kill time and keep you occupied until then.

However, if you really loved New Leaf and were maybe not sure about getting New Horizons, then I'd probably say to rebuy New Leaf. It would give you something to do that might make help you through this difficult time, and you could find a used DS and a copy of the game for a lot less than a Switch.

I wish you and your family the best of luck getting back on your feet.

I'm sorry about what happened to you. If it's something that you can afford to buy and that might help you cope with the situation then I say go for it. It might be therapeutic to rebuild your New Life town whilst rebuilding in real life.

Oh my gosh! I am so very sorry this happened to you, but I'm so glad you and your family are okay!

If you really miss your towns that much and you can afford it, I would say go ahead and buy it. If not, I would probably wait for the switch. See if you can find things second hand at a video game store.

I am so sorry this happened. I can't imagine. The best news, though, is that everyone is alright. However, I would struggle with losing my belongings regardless. I know for me, New Leaf is a huge stress relief and just an escape for a few minutes in the morning before work or before bed. I love New Leaf, but I would feel overwhelmed starting over again. However, having New Leaf to immerse your mind into something else might be nice. If I had to choose one or the other, I would most likely just wait it out for New Horizons. Start fresh with a new beginning in a new game. Then you can talk about building up from scratch in a brand new game with the rest of us. I get a $60 contact rebate that *eventually* will be approved, so I plan to set the rebate card aside until March for the game. Woo!

I am so sorry that this happened.. :(
In the place where I live, not the fire but there's a critical earthquake that's assured to happen not very far. It's called Tokay shurafu, and though it's assured to happen based off the observation about the cycle of rebounding of two earth plates beneath this area, actually no one can know exactly when it will happen. To be exact, it had to have happened already after 300 years from last time. Yet it hasn't. So we are so scared and concerned of it everyday, so am I. And that's one thing always on my mind, if I'll be able to have the time to put my towns/consoles into a bag to carry with me once the earthquake starts, while I have something way more important to save - my fur families, and their meds/medical foods/etc.
From past experience of this level of big earthquake in different area, I know it that everything is gonna be destroyed in literally a moment once it starts. And I have questioned myself many times - what if I didn't get to save my towns? So, here's my answer.

If you were in this situation what would you do?

If I was in the situation where I lose my towns/consoles from the disaster, and none of my families are in critical situation, I'm sure I'll regain them back. By buying a new system and new copy. Even if I don't actually have time to play this town soon, it will be a relief for me in those rough days, that I have a new town and I can play it someday.

Though, that's the answer for me because I am not a so-called gamer. NL and WW are actually the only games I play. I'm not the "new game!" type of person, so that's why. If you're more of a "newer games are more interesting", then everyone is saying here may be right - to wait out for a NH.

However, I wish you to find a relief, whatever it is, and will send the hearty cheers to your family.

Holy cow...I can't even think of words to describe this...
I know you've probably heard "I'm so sorry" about a thousand times already, but still; I can't believe you all had to go through that... I'm relieved that you're all okay; still, losing everything is just so soul-sucking and heartbreaking...its like important pieces of your everyday life have vanished... I can't say I know exactly how you feel, but I do know how it feels when things are lost. I want you to know that I understand the pain and the stress you're under--and that it's perfectly okay to vent (I do it all the time, because holding it in just makes me feel worse).

In my experience, anything worth doing once is worth doing again. I've had many things stolen from me over the years, games being among them. One taken from me at 11 years old, I found a copy of eight years later, and finally got to beat it. I feel like it would be harsh to your heart to let go of something like that. I know that sometimes hanging on hurts worse than letting go, but at the same time, I'd never be happy with giving it up. From what I've read, I think you might be feeling some of that too. Still, I'm no psychic; this is fully your choice.

I understand all too well the feeling that comes with things being out of your own control. It's horrible, honestly. AC gave me a chance to have some control again when nothing else was certain back then. I only have my New Leaf copy because my brother gave it to me, but playing it helped bring stability to my otherwise unstable mind at the time. Being able to have that small sort of control helped me greatly.

That aside, there's a saying out there that says whenever the old is destroyed, new life blooms. Even though the past is gone, the chance for regrowth is still there. Maybe into something even better. It's honestly your own choice on whether or not to start again. With New Horizons on the way, I suppose restarting this close to a new installment does seem a little tedious (and not to mention pricey...). But if your heart ever aches for the nostalgia and the need to keep going, if you truly feel that desire to continue on, I'd say come back to New Leaf whenever you're ready. My gates will always welcome you.

My mother tells me to never apologize for what's not your fault; obviously, I still suck at it, but you should never have to apologize for what happens to you, nor for when you just need to let it out. A volcano will explode when too much pressure builds up, and you should never have to feel bad about releasing that pressure. The important thing to remember is that it can still be rebuilt, should you truly want to. You, on the other hand, there's only one of, and will always be only one, and you can't be replaced or rebuilt. It took me a while to get this into my head, myself (I really am starting to sound like my mother, oh dear). The pain inside will still hurt, no doubt about it, but in the end, you weren't lost along with everything else.

Whatever you decide to do, Twister, know that we'll support you no matter what you choose. If we can help you, we'll be more than glad to. And if you ever need to talk, we're all ears. These things are part of why The Bell Tree is a great place. Let us know if you need anything, okay?

I wish the best of luck to you and your family. May your days from here on allow some more sunlight back into your lives.

I'm so sorry this happen to you! I'm glad you and your family are alright.

If it were up to me, I would wait till New Horizons comes out to start fresh all over again. It might be more worth it than buying another ds and New Leaf, but if you honestly miss New Leaf too and what you used to have, then it's totally fine to get them again. Nothing wrong with that. :)

First, there are no words to describe how sorry I am about your situation and what has happened to you. I'm so glad that you and your family are alright. But know, as the days, months- as long as you need- you will begin to overcome these events. If you ever need more help or support; we will all be here for you!

Second, don't believe that anything right now that matters to you is insignificant. If you're thinking about restarting your Animal Crossing (and once again, I'm so sorry- the loss of personal belongings is a difficult struggle), do so. Especially if you have a good feeling about it. It may be able to help you not only take your mind off what's happened- but help you cope as you rebuild your town. (And if you ever need anything specific in game, I know sure anyone, including myself, would be more than happy to help you get it back.)

You asked what (I/others) would do in your situation. From the perspective of someone with family as well, I can only tell you to be there for those around you who are struggling with this tragedy, too. Later on when you're in a better spot- go for it. Go about to your games if they bring you happiness. Remember that your feelings, thoughts, and emotions as you go through grief are 100% valid, no matter how foreign they may seem.

I know you've heard this before a few times already in the previous comments. But you've got to keep fighting the good fight, and eventually, things will slowly begin to get back into place. Trust me. For what it's worth, you're in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you the best of luck in everything.

I am so sorry that you and your family have had to go through this!
In the end it is completely up to with what you decide with gaming. I would say take a hiatus and then reevaluate if you need gaming in your life again. You lost a lot and it must be so hard! You?ll probably only feel frustrated by starting again for a while but in the end only you can tell. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you enjoy it.

First of all, that’s really tough of what you’re going through right now and I hope you and your family will get back up on your feet soon! To answer your question, I personally don’t think you should get another copy of new leaf. New Horizons is getting closer to the release date and it would probably feel like more of a chore. That is unless if you still decide to have a town in both games. Go with what you feel best.

I am so sorry that happened. I can't imagine having to go through such a thing. Don't think of it as a waste. You enjoyed it which was why you played it in the first play, so you will enjoy it again. You can start new and making something different. Take baby steps. Maybe focus on the more important stuff first. If you want to wait until you try horizons first, then do that. If you decided still after that they you wanna play new leaf again, then get it again one day. I know money can be an issue, so just pick what you need. Then want more first.

I hope you and your family are doing well and getting lots of help

I'm glad you and your family were okay and I'm sorry for your loss.

My personal opinion would be to focus on what you need to right now and maybe give yourself some time. I think with it being early, the shock and grief you probably feel is understandable but eventually you'll be able to pursue the hobbies you enjoyed again. When you are in a situation that you can revisit restoring your games financially/emotionally, I think you should factor what your priority is. If playing the new AC next year is a focus then I'd focus on getting a switch first and that. If you don't plan to play it or you get the switch and are able to buy extra, then I would get another 3DS/ACNL copy at that point. I think New Leaf is always going to have a replay value but ultimately it just depends on how you feel and there's no rush to decide that.

If you do get New Leaf, feel free to reach out to me in pm. Happy to help with anything I can whether some catalog items, scanning in RVs, villagers, etc. My about me section has all that info. :) Best wishes.

Thank you so much everyone for the nice words. It means a lot and has given me a lot to think about. I’m still not 100% sure on what I’m going to do yet, but I have been thinking about what I want to do and I have thought of a few ideas.

It will still be a while before I can do anything, but if I decide to buy a new 3ds, I want to try and look for one on ebay or a pawn shop because it would be cheaper. If I could find one that was cheap but still in good condition I think I would rebuy it. That sounds like the best route for me so far.

Either that or I’m going to skip getting a 3ds all together for the time being and just buy a switch and some games to play on that until New Horizons comes out. I think I would still get another 3ds if I did this, but it would be way into the future. I still think I would play New Leaf after New Horizons comes out. I still played Wild World from time to time even after all the years New Leaf was out so I don’t think I would ditch New Leaf completely.

Part of me still holds out hope that maybe somehow my 3ds and games made it through the fire and are just buried in the ashes somewhere yet to be discovered but I don’t think so. I haven’t found anything of mine that is good. I found some of my books that were in my room and they were not completely burned up but they were too far damaged to be any good. I imagine any of my games would be the same way. I really miss playing my games and I still think about my towns and all of the hard work I put into them that is all gone. But right now I’m trying to distract myself with Pocket Camp which only makes me miss my towns more. I really wish I had uploaded one of my towns to the dream suite but I was trying to wait until it was finished and now it will never be.

Usually a lot of people sell them on the market place on Facebook too! You might get lucky and find one that way if or when you decide if you want one. I broke my first one, so I ended up buying one second hand from a friend that was selling theirs. Cheaper is always better!

I hope that whatever you decide to do you find joy in it. And have fun with Pocket Camp!

And just so you know for future reference, Gamestop sells used and refurbished consoles a good prices, too. :)

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

If I hadn't recently sold my copy of NL, I would have sent it to you. :-(
