Do you Play as Yourself, or a Made up Character?

I play as myself, or the game would not feel as immerse.

But its not about relating to a character, in animal crossing it is a virtual simulated game, where you are playing as a person, which is why it makes more sense to be yourself for some people
In a book or a movie, you have that detachment, as the character is definitely not you.
I don't read a book and pretend thats me through the story,i can relate but i dont envision that as myself, same in a film

If it isn't about relating to characters, then why do you need to play as yourself to relate to your character? (Whoa, head spinning now). Anyway, I am not criticizing people who play as you do, just as I hope you're not implying that my own playstyle is somehow less "legitimate" than yours. ;]

But tbh, I don't know how I could actually treat this game as a sim, and truly play "myself," in a world where I don't have to eat, don't have to sleep, don't have to go to the bathroom, don't have to deal with cranky anthropology professors, don't have a husband, don't have bills to pay, etc. The real me is very much defined by these things. XD

Oh no certainly not! i have made lots of made up characters in online gaming and on other games etc, infact Animal crossing is the only game i actually play as myself!
And its not about relating but i see Animal crossing as a second life, and thats why i play as me

I see it as a second life too- one that I experience through the eyes of someone else. That's all.

I hate my IRL name so this time I decided to name myself Majora and I live in the town of Termina. I like it better when I name my character something besides my own name... And I don't want randoms to know my real name or something.
