If it isn't about relating to characters, then why do you need to play as yourself to relate to your character? (Whoa, head spinning now). Anyway, I am not criticizing people who play as you do, just as I hope you're not implying that my own playstyle is somehow less "legitimate" than yours. ;]
But tbh, I don't know how I could actually treat this game as a sim, and truly play "myself," in a world where I don't have to eat, don't have to sleep, don't have to go to the bathroom, don't have to deal with cranky anthropology professors, don't have a husband, don't have bills to pay, etc. The real me is very much defined by these things. XD
