Do you have to gift your villagers to get the rest of the reactions locked behind best friendship?

Okay, so I have all of the reactions that don't require being best friends with a villager. I only need 8 more, and they are locked behind being best friends with them. Thing is, I maxed out their friendship by just talking to them and not gifting them anything and they won't even ping me about reactions anymore. What they ping instead is nickname change and stuff the like.

I'm here asking if I have to gift my villagers expensive furniture with a wrapper included every day in order for them to ping me about the reactions that are locked behind best friendship? (In other words, make their house incredibly ugly just to get the last 8 remaining reactions I need). Thanks in advance!

Unless they changed something in the update, it’s not necessary. I got all the reactions from a specific personality without gifting anything.

I don´t care about reactions. But you can just give them wrapped foreign fruits in order to reach a higher friendship level. This won´t change their inventory...

I didn't even know about personalities and reactions for the longest time. I stupidly moved out my snooty and sisterly without getting them all. The snooty I needed all but 1 and the sisterly I only need the bf one(that sucked the most cause I know I had high friendship with my sisterly). So now I got Soleil and I've gotten 2 reactions from her so I only need the snooty bf one. I still need a sisterly villager. Have the villagers you need reactions from asked for you to change their catchphrase? They don't ask that until you are at/near bf so if they haven't you still need to get the friendship higher. I give wrapped non native fruit everyday.

I got the best friend reaction from Dotty without having gifted her anything, it just took some time.

As far as I know they patched it but changed it again in one of the last updates. It definetely works for getting pictures

It still raises their friendship, which is what you want for the best friend reactions. You technically don't need to do this as you get a +1 to your friendship just by talking to them every day, but that will take a long time. Gifting just raises their friendship faster.

What got patched was for photos. The original patch from 1.3 removed photos from the prize pool when being given items in the foreign fruit value range. 1.4 changed it so that wrapped stacks of fruits count as whatever the whole stack would sell for, so you could wrap a stack of two foreign fruits to get into the 750+ photo tier. But again that's all completely irrelevant to reactions.

I don't know how good of a relationship Blanche and I have, but she gave me my last reaction two days ago. I give each villager fruit once per day and then don't really go out of my way to talk to them afterwards.
