I wonder what a 1st person animal crossing would feel like? Would it "engage" you more with the world? Or do you prefer the 3rd person view because you can see everything that goes on?

I love playing sandbox games, especially ones that you can customize, build, and create with. I'm having a hard time deciding which is better.

It's a dream of mine that eventually I'll create a sandbox game that really allows creativity to flow, but I'm far from that goal and I have much to learn. But everyday I think about the concepts of that eventual game (I'm not even sure if I can do it, but dreaming is always good, eh?) and I'm wondering whether or not 1st person or 3rd person is better.

Also placing furniture would be very different. I wonder if it'll be more efficient or more of a hassle in 1st person?

EDIT: Whoops! Sorry guys I meant to type in 3rd person instead of 2nd person for the poll, so if you want to choose 3rd person, please choose the "2nd person" option!! XD If a mod could fix that for me that'll be awesome!

I prefer third. I like to be able to see the clothes and get my hair done. It would be like removing half of the game to take that away.

Also, your poll says 2nd person... I don't even think that's possible for a video game ;)

Aha! I totally forgot about the hair and clothings!

And shoot!!! I totally messed that up! I'm gonna fix it right now lol I really really really want to see a 2nd person game now hahahahah

EDIT: Shoot! I can't edit it anymore! Could a mod kindly do this for me? Thanks so much!

I voted for side scrolling because I couldn't see a third person option, so I thought you meant for side scrolling to be third person. Whoops.

But yeah, I think it would be a lot better in third person because you can see your character. It also makes it easier to see stuff all around you such as villagers and buildings. I'd be quite scared if I turned around in first person and there was a villager right in my face lol

I would say third. In all the games I've played so far that offer different person modes I've found more entertaining the 3rd person one. Although maybe it'd be interesting 1st person mode sometimes. For instance when you talk to your villagers, that way you'd be able to see their faces better!

I'm sure 1st person would make it more tense at times, like when you're running from bees and turning to catch them in the net.

I'm happy it's in 3rd person, it makes it more like a little world inside your ds that you're peeking into. :)

Third person IMO. I've always thought that playing ACNL is like playing with a virtuall dollhouse in which you can personalize the whole town instead of only the house. First person would make a bit difficult to see the town, I think.

Well, my area is more animation than game design, but my immediate reaction is third person perspective is most effective for Animal Crossing in particular because it allows you to scope a surrounding area instantly. However, if an independent developer chose to create a demo of Animal Crossing in first person, I'd be up for trying it out. It might be interesting.

First person makes me feel sick sometimes. No idea why. Also feels kinda weird because there's no peripheral vision, so even though I know I'm seeing pretty much everything the game will allow me to see (in terms of scope or whatever you call it - I just woke up man idk) I still kinda feel like a horse with those little blinder thingies on or something. Playing in 2nd/3rd person view feels a lot more natural to me as a result.

I would LOVE first person... And wow, I'm the only one who voted for that. I expected a lot more! I'm more of a reality lover. The closer something is to my reality senses, the better I'll love it and the more real it will feel to me.

Wow that's a lot of 3rd person votes! I actually posted a similar poll on the minecraft forums, and most people (except 1 person) chose 1st person! I think it may depend on the style of the game, and the audience it's targeting! :D

And sorry guys I meant to write 3rd person instead of 2nd person, but it got stuck as 2nd >.< And sidescrolling is like Maplestory or Terraria (basically 2D 3rd person)

This is very interesting!! ^_^

Why not both? Games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout (among others) let you switch between 1st and 3rd. I can only see 1st person working on console though. Not that it a handheld couldn't handle it but it just wouldn't feel right.

I can?t imagine Animal Crossing games in 1st person, that would be weird. You can?t even see your player character.

You could from reflections!

Exactly like in pokemon. It's first person view in some instances and at first it makes things really different and interesting but you get used to it quickly. Actually it gets annoying since the view feels cramped when switched to 1st person from 3rd person.
1st person would just not work in a game like animal crossing. Imagine trying to play animal crossing with mine craft views..... I'm sure a lot of people would feel handicapped >.>
