I had been playing ACNL a lot and eventually got tired of it and stopped playing for a few weeks. I'd like to hear whether other people get tired of playing ACNL and find it helpful to take a break from playing for a few days or weeks or months. Do you appreciate the game more after you take a break from playing? I'll probably start playing again soon and hopefully I'll feel more energized to move forward with landscaping my town and decorating my house and get out of the rut I was in.

Do you get burned out playing ACNL?

I can kind of feel my own burn out period coming up, so yeah, I get what you mean.
I think it really happens once we reach a point of either utter completion or utter frustration, y'know? Like, you got all your dreamies, you're satisfied with your town and badges and what not, and you don't feel like doing much else.
OR you do it my way - you're dissatisfied with everything about your town, groan at the thought of even trying to get 1k streetpasses for a golden streetpass badge, and you just end up losing motivation to even try to reach any more goals in the game. I don't know if I'll take a break soon or not though since I'm seeking two more dreamies, but yeah.

I stopped playing animals crossing for a bit less than a year. I only got back to it very recently and I'm definitely having more fun now. I've got plans for my town and a list of dreamies. XD
What really helped me get back into this game was the community. I'm on reddit quite a bit so I've just been on all day hanging out with others/participating in giveaways etc.

I've been playing since March 2014, and in that time I've had two breaks of several months. I wouldn't call either a burn out period exactly. I wasn't really sick of the game, just more interested in other things.
The second time I just got out of the habit of playing. I didn't take my 3DS to my parents place over my Christmas and summer holiday because I felt my non-verbal Autistic brother would be fascinated by the hinge and smooth feel, end up breaking it and being bewildered and distraught when I got mad. When I got back I was just out of the habit of playing ANCL and in the habit of playing Skyrim, so I didn't pick up the game again until May.

I definitely go through cycles of whether I want to play non stop all day, or not at all.
Im glad Ill be starting my semester up at school tomorrow, because I am at the point that I don't want to play too much.
So playing for like an hour or so a day in between classes just to ease my day would be just what I need.

Yes. I take breaks all the time. I usually start up again when I get a fun idea for a room.

That happens to me too,
or an idea for a PWP area/landscaping.
Im just struggling cause I need to unlock all the PWPs I need still, and customize all the furniture for my snow queens house, its really tedious, time consuming, and doesn't have much reward at the moment.
I stopped playing for a year just because I got bored with it.
I came back after a long hiatus and was completely out of tune with my game--a few of my villagers moved away. I had never gotten around to landscaping and my dreamies were in bad places because in my old town I never plot reset. I decided I didn't really have much to lose and restarted my copy.
I made it a temorary cycling thread to earn a bit of TBT for my new town and restarted. I'm happy I did because I got the grass, shape, river shape, and map layout I've always wanted. (My first town was made when the game first came out, and back then I didn't really care for all those things.) Also, I started plot resetting, so now I feel like there's more to lose if I stop playing.
I have a feeling I'm going to start playing less and less when school comes around--which is on August 31st, so pretty soon. I hope I don't get burned out again, because now I have a lot more to lose than the first time around.

I take everything slowly everyday so I don't get bored of it. But there was a time when I really got into the game and played too much. Basically, people should just go one step at a time and play online with other people. It will help keep the game interesting.
yes!! Some things in this game are just so frustrating! Villagers ruining paths, the PWP placement system is bad, and it can be so dragging having to wait a whole day to see changes in your town. I know it keeps you wanting to play for the next day, but when i'm designing something I like to have my materials ready and then see everything fall together at once, you know? If I'm designing a room I want all the furniture that day and not have to order in sets of 10 and wait 24 hours for another set. Sometimes I wish this game went on a 12 hour base or something. I'm not against TTing, Im not even on the right date today! But it can be risky :/ :[ I'd rather still have Jeremiah in my town instead of those hybrids I was trying to breed so hastily. Also not knowing how far you have until the next badge can be like trying to get somewhere blind folded. You don't know how far you've gone or how far you've got to go.
