Do you ever get bored?

I don't want this to turn into a meaningless basement poll question, Mods! Let's see where this goes?

I genuinely want to know if you all get bored?

I actually want to know, because I can honestly say I am not sure what the word means. I have heard the word "bored" my entire life, mostly from children growing up.

I was the worst kid to "put on time out" (which I think is a way to teach a child a lesson by making them bored? Help me out here current parents!). I could and would always find a way to be entertained including a peice of lint or small pulled thread from the carpet.

Everything is entertaining... what does bored mean?

I genuinely want to know if you get bored, and what the word means to you

Yes I get bored very easily.

I wasn't the easiest kid growing up. I would always get in trouble in school and home. They had a room for me that ehen i got bored i would kick or hit the walls in elementary. I think for me, bored is just not having an activity that actually captures my interest

Typically I don't get bored much, only if I'm in class or waiting for something. xD I can usually find a way to entertain myself, but doing the same things every day will get monotonous and dull.

I got in trouble a lot as a kid, and my punishment was typically being sent to my room to mull over what I did wrong. If I just went back to my toys/devices, then I wouldn't have learned from the experience and keep doing wrong.

I think boredom is important - If you keep your self always busy, then you don't take the time to do nothing but think. We need to reflect on things in our life and make a conscious effort to think about it in order to improve or change our lives for the better.

I am always bored >< My issue is I never feel like doing anything. I'm always laying in bed due to my chronic illnesses and I never feel like getting to my desk anymore to play the games I love. By the time I get off work, I'm immediately in bed just rotting >< It's really frustrating because I would like to get out and do things, but work exhausts me so badly and I'm always in pain after a 5 hour shift :/

But when I'm in bed, I don't watch anything, read.. crochet, even. I just lay there on my phone. Which is VERY BORIIIING I know 😭 I just don't have it in me to do anything else! However, since I'm finally getting answers for the pain I'm always in- I can take the next steps to cure or eliminate the pain- or at the very least, make it manageable.

I think being bored is important sometimes, like Zelda said. In my case though, for someone who always has time to think, or rather, OVERTHINK.. I'd rather keep myself busy all of the time ;w;

I get bored pretty easily unless I have something to do like playing videogames game or doing chores.

Don't we all ;) ? I'd love to know how some people are never bored. Although I imagine that might mean they're just always busy, and I wouldn't like that D: I do like my free time.

Yesterday my small period of boredom stemmed from having run out of activites to do... I can only play so much Animal Crossing before I'm thru, ya know? Can't believe I'd play video games for hours and hours when I was much younger.

I’ve been getting bored doing the same thing here and there lately and just been watching shows to keep myself distracted while I play a game. Anything to keep myself busy I suppose.

This is so interesting to me!

If any of you were to sit in a room with no electronics, or anything made for entertainment, like toys or boardgames...

You wouldn't be abe to amuse yourselves?

I understand that a timeline should be added, like for 15 minites or an hour or day, but I can entertain myself for hours with almost nothing. I know this because I did growing up!

Imagination... blowing my breath on a window and drawing... picking at a string on my clothes or carpet... stacking things to stand on to reach the ceiling...

I know those are things for a kid to do in solitary confinement, but its not really any different than what adults do to keep themselves busy during down time.

I get bored sometimes, not because I have nothing to do, I wish I had even more time for hobbies, but sometimes nothing interest me or I get very frustrated with everything. I can't finish something because there is one thing annoying me so I just put everything on hold. I start a lot of things but don't finish any... Some days I just have no motivation or interest. The only place where I'm not bored is in the woods, ...but I can get annoyed at mosquitoes though..

I get bored sometimes but it's not very often. If I am all alone in my room with nothing I want to do, I usually get lost in thought which isn't boredom at all for me.

I get constantly bored, but only when I'm around other people, if that makes sense?

If I'm on my own somewhere then I can have conversations and make up stories and mull over things I've learnt in my head for hours, and even doing repetitive things (eg humming the same tune... the entire day...) doesn't get boring for me. I like the quiet and solitude a lot and it's never boring to me.

But if I'm in school or with my family, then when there's even the slightest lull in conversation I'm immediately bored and looking for something to do. When I'm with groups of people, I, idk, I expect there to be noise and activity and when there isn't I get lwk annoying trying to fill in the empty space with words and stuff. I find it hard to finish my artwork in school because I get bored really quickly when there's other people there, but if I do it at home alone I can complete my art. I don't know how that works, but yeah.

That's a really great answer! And something I didnt think about until now. When I am around other people, I get anxiety, but it also feels kind like boredom where I would rather be alone or with one person in a focused situation.

Makes me wonder... is boredom a form of anxiety?

When I was growing up there were definitely times where I'd be bored. However, these days I don't really get bored. There's just too much that I'm able to preoccupy myself with, whether they're things I want to do or things that I'd consider more time wasting than anything or even thoughts I want to focus on, that I don't really feel that sense of boredom.

Now and then. I usually just look around my room and find something to do. Bored to me is when none of my hobbies or interests are grabbing my attention.

I get bored when I've already exhausted all the stuff I usually do (Like drawing, gaming, or hell, even chores), kinda like a burnout that lasts for the rest of the day and resets tomorrow? The only way for me to escape that feeling is to start daydreaming about random stuff O_O
