Do you consider it cheating...?

...To turn off the game and lose progress on purpose? In my situation I positioned a ramp, made sure of where I wanted it - then the minute I placed it (before donating any money to its fund) I realised somewhere slightly different would look way better. So turned off the game and lost that positioning of it on purpose.

I guess the only thing I really gained from it was not having to wait an extra day for it to be cancelled and to place it where I now wanted it. But I feel a bit cheaty?? I'm being good in this game, not TT-ing or anything... idk it's just sort of bugging me I guess?

No. It's not cheating.

None of the AC games previous to NH had auto-save, so I'm sure people did that even more often than they do now. It's just harder to take advantage of it now because of how often it saves.

It's called resetting and normally is use to change the outcome of a session you made or to force an outcome, like in pokemon getting what you want.
It's not cheating so don't feel bad about it.

If it were me I wouldn’t consider it cheating—or at least not cheating with any negative moral value attached.

What could be considered cheating is quitting without saving while using fish bait

I don't know, you can't exactly save at the right spot and you will lose stuff if you do that. Normally this would be called save scumming (and counted as cheating), but this is a little bit more random than that. I agree that you have to decide for yourself what is right and what isn't in this case, I had the same situation earlier but I decided to take the financial hit, but you're not really affecting anything by restarting the game.

Nope. I’ve done that with placing houses. Realized it was a space off, turned off the game before it auto saved and replaced it lol. Don’t feel bad about it.

I will happily admit that I save-scummed to get the 100 fish streak milestone done because I never wanted to deal with it again. it sitting there unfinished would bug me to hell xD let's be real, hardly anyone can get that milestone legitimately.
Whether what I'm doing is considered cheating doesnt matter to me, but for what you're doing, its definitely not cheating, so dont feel bad about it yo! Its 100%, more worth it to save your time than it is to wait an absurd amount of time for a second try over a small mistake or second-guess. Im pretty sure most, if not everyone, here has done something similar to you

I catch fish 99% of the time, so I'd say it's defintiely possible to legitmately earn the achievement, but I also just wanted to get the achievement out of the way so I caught 100 fish in a row*.

No, I did it when hunting for a Stringfish and also when I destroyed rocks accidentally. Also for the 100 consecutive fish I initially did this but ended up just getting it naturally (I guess my mishaps were on stone / trash!)

Fishing breaks my brain, especially adding the stress of knowing exactly how many more I need for the 100 streak. I constantly hear the fish not biting noise, see the fish bounce back, fully process this, then... hit A anyway ._.

Nah it's not cheating. We don't even have Resetti to yell at us about it being cheating "cause you can't reset in real life" when we do it (as much as I miss him yelling at me) so you're gucci lmao

Honestly, you're probably going to get people fighting you "that's not how the developers intended for the game to be played, hence why they created the auto save feature!" But who the heck cares? Play the game how you want to! In the end, it's just a game, it doesn't effect real life so have a blast! Just go, "whoops!" and press the power button lol

I closed my game when i ruined my fishing streak the other day, but the damage was done. It felt a little cheaty to me because it goes against the whole point of the challenge but who cares, I might even do it agian because fishing will stress me out until i finish this thing lol. Your senario is totally not cheating, like I gave Rosie a knit hat last week and it looked fugly on her because it hid her ears completely so i exited without saving. Dont mind how others feel about it, if you are ok with it then just go ahead and do it.
