Do you care about realism?

Do you customize your town to be more dreamlike or logical/real? Does seeing things like a waterfall coming from nothing make you cringe or happy? For me personally, while I understand that Animal Crossing is nowhere near a logical/real game, I just cannot help but try to make my town as realistic as possible.

Stuff like this makes me cringe more than anything. While it does sound cool, it looks terrible IMO. I'm seeing so many towns go for this unrealistic terraforming and I guess I must be in the minority here haha

What're your guy's opinions?

I like the waterfalls, but not a ton like that.

I also don't much like the look of them falling into the ground rather than a lake or pond!
I want to make a huge lake with tiny waterfalls here and there myself.

Try to go realistic mainly coz I suck at terraforming. That's why I kind of just left the river and terrains as it was before I unlocked it and just did lowkey changes

I lean towards realism and natural. I just feel like it looks more beautiful and simple! Although I do love visiting people with crazy maps to get that crazy feel out of me haha.

Same. I have a waterfall feature surrounding my home and "deck" in game (photo uploads are telling me server error on mobile...) but logically (very rich) people do make massive waterfall accents around their backyard lagoon like pool areas.

Yeah the waterfalls appearing from nothing thing kinda bugs me, I have seperate rivers in my town but I’m trying to have them connected to fairly large pools of water at the top and bottom of waterfalls to make them look at least a little plausible.

I don't make a huge effort, but it does kind of bug me when things look like they simply couldn't happen. Though you might be able to explain some of those things with enough effort. Perhaps the waterfalls flow into an underground aquifer? I don't think that explanation is that realistic, but it at least sounds plausible. Also having an underground lake could give some interesting lore opportunities.

Blend of both. I don't mind fantasy, it is a game after all... but there's a limit to what I'll personally tolerate. Too much of one thing can be incredibly jarring when it comes to landscaping, or just environments in general.

I want more realistic but beautiful still. Stuff flying in the sky just makes the game feel like it's glitching to me.

In regards to waterfalls 'appearing from nothing', it seems that each tile of land is in fact filled with water - that's why when you dig into it, water appears and may flow out of it. So if you base your expectations on this dreamlike-reality then everyone's designs makes sense. Now you are liberated from criticism and have total freedom to tear up your island however you like.

I prefer realistic! Lots of people got terraforming and went wild re-doing their entire island. I've got it but really haven't used it to do much but shift some bits of the river that were in the way. I prefer my town to stay natural looking and build on top of it, and just fix things that are annoying like the rivers/awkwardly shaped third-tier cliffs.

Animal Crossing rivers and waterfalls are already unrealistic.

Well, I spent hours the other day making a source for one of my rivers and making sure that when I made the river longer I made it natural-looking, I'm probably on the more realistic side. I love looking at the fantastic stuff, but I don't see myself playing with it daily.

I like realistic and natural. My original map had a pool and waterfall next to my house (I'm on the 3rd tier), and I did add a smaller waterfall on one side. It doesn't have a pool behind it, but I'm imagining it taps into the underground reservoir from the pool.

The only other changes I made were to chip some cliffs back to give more space for my villager neighborhoods and access for a few inclines.

I like to be unique but with some realism. So far I've made a "valley" area and a "swamp" area on my map (quotations cause they only vaguely resemble an actual valley or swamp). I like making my town feel adventurous and full of secrets!

I also don't like the look of the huge waterfall walls people put on their islands, I think overusing waterfalls in general makes them kinda bland (although I do have a few on my island now I have tried to at least give them different sizes and styles)

Not realism per se in terms of landscaping but what I take into consideration more is practicality of the map which will allow me to freely move around and play about carrying on my daily tasks without hassle. In other words, I don’t want it to be too cluttered to the point that I’ll find it hard to move around in. Plus, I also consider if things make sense and if they’re going where they should go (e.g. I only put actual outside furniture outside because it rains in the game and it bothers me if there are things there that belong inside the house).

Personally, I think if I worried about making everything super realistic, I'd stress myself out, so I'm all for people doing whatever just 'cuz it looks cool lol. That being said, I'm not creative in the slightest, so my island looks pretty natural anyway <.<. I don't mind seeing some crazy stuff in other people's islands though, it's cool how they even come up with these ideas in the first place, cuz I could never. But I appreciate simplistic, natural islands too. I support whatever the creator's vision is, both sides have great appeal.
