Do other islanders walk around like villagers?

So I'm hoping someone can answer this for me. I'm planning on making another islander at some point and putting them somewhere on my island; they'd be a secondary character of mine.

I'm curious, for those of you who have multiple islanders on one island: do they walk around when they're not being played like normal villagers? I know in dream towns in NL they would walk around, but I'm really curious if they walk around in this game or if they just remain inside their house!

In the past games (outside of dream suites), if they are not being actively played, they will be hidden. I think that'll be the same in this game as well.

Nope! They’re completely gone whenever you’re playing.

Nope, my dad and brother share my island with me and they always just... well, I can't say they stay in their houses, since they aren't inside them when I'm playing! It's almost as if they don't exist.

I really wish they'd walk around your island, but behave the same way as they do when you're in a dream town in New Leaf. Because them acting like villagers is just plain weird.

Aww, that's really unfortunate. I would've loved it if they walked around when you're playing. That would be so cute, because I really liked how they walked around the dream towns in NL.

I wish some of the NPC’s would walk around when the stores close or take breaks. who wouldn’t want to see Isabelle taking a coffee break out in front of Ables?
