Do held villagers remember you when in boxes?

I recently got Snake back, and he didn't remember me (which is pretty obvious, since he wasn't my original one)
Now I'm scared that my held Kabuki won't remember me. It'll crush me forever. Do held villagers remember you when in their boxes?

I guess the only thing I'd have to deal with is him talking about my friend's town.. D:<

I had Erik in Pangola, moved him to Alpine, and he is now in Mirage. I went over to Mirage as the Pangola mayor, and he not only still called me by the last nickname he had given me, but he said, "How is everybody back in Pangola?"

This happened to me with Poppy! I visited my friend's town one time, and she still called me M-Puff. My friend also said that she mentioned the custom design she was wearing was made by me. ;D
