Do Amiibo's ruin the game?

Just a question to think about here. Does getting every villager we want in seconds ruin the fun?

I know you might think it sounds crazy, but sometimes working for things is what makes it fun. There is no conflict, no villagers we hate and love to torture, and nothing to work for since we get them at the press of a card.

Food for thought, what do you guys think?

Doesn't ruin the fun for me at all, in fact, quite the opposite. I started a new town a few weeks ago and have all ten villagers of my choice in nice spots around town. (I let them pretty much choose where they wanted to live.) Now I can settle down to building friendships with them and working on PWP's, landscaping, developing characters homes, etc. That, to me, is the fun stuff. :)

Amiibo's ruined my town to start with, because it took 6 months for one to ping to move.

I eventually made it an all amiibo town, as I really had no choice.

They weren't going to move, so I got rid of every villager, and got who I wanted, and put them where I wanted.

Not for me. I like all of my original villagers and don't plan on getting rid of them anytime soon. If anything, having amiibos made everything better for me. Now I don't have to worry about losing my dreamies or having to wait through the 16 villager cycle ever again.

Well, I don't really use amiibos anymore. I guess they are in fact useful for people who don't want to lose
their favorite villagers.

I didn't start playing New Leaf until after the amiibo update and I was very skeptical about it. Then I started with a town full of birds and frogs and quickly bought amiibo cards to replace them with my favourite dogs, bears and wolves and I'm very happy with the change.

Having random villagers can be fun but you can also end up with a town full of villagers you don't like and not enjoy playing as much. I'm an amiibo convert and hope it continues with a Switch version.

I can see what you mean! Items are all the more accessible now and so are villagers. But I never liked to suffer in anything. That is the reason why I use these forums and trade among people to make my life easier. If I wanted this game to be harder I wouldn't do trades on here. A majority of my dream villagers I got from these forums.

The amiibo update fixed many things. I do like the new rv furniture. I like having people over to order from the rvs I've been able to get a hold of.

I like the convenience, but I think I still prefer getting the villagers the traditional way either random or getting them through resetting. I also like making the effort in-game than just plainly buying stuff using real life money and scanning something then voila haha. I mean, not just AC but that's how I am in almost every game. I prefer acquiring things in-game no matter how hard or easy they are, than just buying amiibo to get them instantly. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not looking down on people who uses and have this enormous collection of AC amiibo because I know some of them are really hard to find and obviously cost a lot (I'm a game collector so I know how rare stuff works) so good job with that! This is just my preference. You could say I'm an old-school kind of gamer.

But okay, it may sound like a hypocrite but I used amiibo to get the villagers in my second town. They're WA villagers so obviously they aren't available elsewhere other than scanning the card (or inviting them from others, but I prefer getting the cards myself). If I have a choice, I wish they were added in-game through randoms or in the campsite or whatever, as long as it can be done in-game.

I really think that depends on what your idea of fun is. A lot of people find more pleasure and fun out of the landscaping and doing intricate themed towns which involve certain villagers. It's much easier to do that when you can pick certain villagers that go with your town's theme. Instead of spending the time trying to find and get the perfect villagers you scan them in and work more on your town.

For me, when I started playing I didn't have any amiibo cards but I also got really lucky and had really great starter villagers most of which I still have. I knew I wanted Bones though since he's been my favorite villager since the GameCube version. So when amiibo cards came out it was a no brainer for me to just buy the card.

I also think if some people just love certain villagers and have their heart set on having their specific set of dreamies then buying their respected cards is just the obvious answer.

Made the game better for me. Now I can invite the villagers I really want whilst mixing them with others I may not have known I wanted, but ended up falling in love with. I love to be able to bring in villagers using the amiibo cards so I can see whether I gel with them or not. It's a win-win for me.

Currently, I have 5 towns that are in the original un-updated configuration and 18 that do have the WA update. When I want simplicity, I go to one of the originals. There is so much more to do since the update, especially accumulating more junk that will never get used...now I forgot where I was going here.. Short answer:no, or yes, depending upon personal preferences.

like other people said i don't think amiibos ruin the game because the people who want them use and the people who don't don't buy them or use them or find other ways to access them. i want amiibo cards also not because i want them in my town but because i like certain villagers and want to collect them

I personally don't think they ruin the game at all, just the opposite actually! It's difficult to obtain very specific villagers you like so it's a relief that amiibos are a thing. Sometimes certain amiibos are hard to find too so maybe getting them isn't always as easy either.
I also find it pleasant that amiibos are completely optional too - if one does think they ruin the game or just prefers to play without them, the person isn't forced to buy any if they don't want to.

I don't even have any amiibos (I avoid knick-knacks irl) but the WA update is the reason I came back after stopping 4 years ago. I love them. It's a feature that you can easily ignore for any reason if you want. Also, it's fun with the random villagers at first, but after playing my original town for 400hrs without running into one dreamie... that, to me, is not fun.

I also love the RV and MEOW system. It's awesome that, as someone without any amiibo, I can find people to scan in villagers and RVs for me.

It depends, since there were 400 villagers (now 460+), waiting for your favorite villager to show up in a plot or the campsite could take months, if not years. The only way I could ever have Ellie or Olive (from my GC town) is a WA card.
It's just the way you use them, I guess.

In my humble opinion the only thing better than the tip about burying the pit fall seed is the addition of the amiibo cards... Total game changer!!! Just the peace of mind knowing that you can move 'em back in even if they have amnesty or ambrosia or whatever makes all the difference to me.

Because i get super busy at work and sometimes have to be away from my game for weeks to months, I like being able to move in Villagers I want, when I want them. Nothing was more crushing then coming back and finding favorite Villagers gone with no way to get them back.

The only thing they need to fix, is the pinging to move.

Make them able to ping to move, like regular villagers, reguardless of the regular to amiibo villager ratio in your town.

I can't really afford that kind of stuff, so I'm not sure how it alters your game. I don't think it's cheating or anything like that, though. I mean -- it took me five years to afford a 2DS lol (but now, a year later, I saved up for the new Pokeball 2DS XL so I can use the NFC reader... I'm getting it tomorrow!!)

I DO buy amiibos, but they're usually from the clearance section (like, today I got four amiibos for $2 each) but I've never owned amiibo cards. My friend has some and I scanned in Marcie from her just last week, but that's about it.

Thankfully, the threads do help out a lot, but I would like to have some cards myself so I could scan them in when I'm offline or my DS won't reach the Wifi for some reason.

My birthday is coming up so I might use the extra money I use for that to get the Sanrio cards, because I've always wanted those, plus my dreamies, but I'm not sure I'll have enough. I can always have people buy me some for my birthday though lmao (Oh, and if any of you know where I can get cheap amiibo cards, let me know)

So, yeah. My opinion is pretty indifferent. I thought it was cool when I got Marcie in my town, though. Even though she wasn't a dreamie of mine, she's still really cute (I love the kangaroos lol) and has a good personality.
