I’ve never had a natural camper, only my forced camper who appeared 30 days ago. 30 days of gameplay with no camper. However, I’ve been scanning in one of my amiibo most evenings, to have something to do with the campsite. I’ve never scanned anyone in more than once, so none of them are offering to move in or anything. But if you scan in an amiibo on, say, Wednesday, does that mean a camper can’t appear the next day, Thursday? I assumed that would not be the case—why incentivize players NOT to use amiibo? And the amiibo camper disappears when the day resets, so it shouldn’t affect the following day. But after 30 days I’m wondering. Have any of you ever had a random campsite visitor the day after an amiibo scan?

Campsite visitors have a 'bad luck mitigation' system built into them. On the first day after one has left, you have a 0% chance of a camper. This percentage raises every day after to a maximum of a 20% chance per new day of a campsite visitor after 7+ days.

So, basically, the days you have scanned in an amiibo, the day after you essentially have a 0% chance of a campsite visitor. Even after I believe 3 days its still pretty low, being around a 10% chance I think.

So they really did punish people for scanning amiibo? That seems pretty low, considering amiibo cards were designed and marketed by Nintendo for this specific purpose. Ensuring that no one would ever get a natural camper without foregoing the use of amiibo cards for at least a couple of weeks seems harsh to me. I’ve been scanning them in the evenings after another disappointing day with no visitors, just to meet new animals and have something to do. Really sucks that Nintendo made their own product incompatible with a prominent gameplay feature. I like having surprise campers and asking them to move in; it’s thematic. Guess I either have to never have a campsite visitor again or stop meeting new villagers in the evening for weeks at a time in order to have even a chance.

No, its just how the system works. You're at a massive advantage by owning Amiibo Cards, since you can just pick when you want a camper. The rest of us who don't own any have to wait behind timed RNG. I've had 2-3 campsite visitors since my forced one.

That’s a fair point; I’m aware that I’m fortunate to have collected about half the cards several years ago when people weren’t selling them for $48.99 on eBay. But from the company’s point of view, it just seems odd that I would have to choose between getting visitors normally and scanning them in like god. Nintendo seems to really WANT people to play “naturally” so I expected the occasional amiibo scan not to negate that option. I would rather move villagers in through normal means because it feels more aligned with the nature of the game, just for me personally. I would prefer amiibo to be an optional add rather than a replacement.

It’s definitely true I have an advantage in terms of choice, but most people with cards paid hundreds of real-life dollars to collect them, which is what Nintendo wanted. I’m not expecting you to feel sad for me—you sound kind of annoyed that I have access to amiibo cards—but I still don’t understand that design choice. It’s the amiibo cards that allow me more choice than those without the cards. Allowing me to also have a single random campsite visitor every 1-2 weeks wouldn’t give me an additional advantage, nor would it have any impact whatsoever on the game experience of any other players, whether they had amiibo or not. I’m disappointed to be locked out of one of my favorite aspects of the game unless I completely abandon a card collection that took me nine months and $150+ to amass.

And if I came off as antagonistic, I apologize! I’m just disappointed because I prefer to play naturally when it comes to core features. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Tbh even without Amiibo the chance of getting a Campsite Visitor was pretty low to begin with. You had a higher chance of someone moving out naturally and finding a new villager on an Mystery Island. I don’t know how long it took for me to get a new Campsite Villager after Mint moved into my Campsite, but I didn’t TT at that time and I’m sure it was at least one Week, if not longer.

Yeah, I’ve heard! That’s also surprising to me. I wish the regular occurrences were more frequent. That’s part of why I was surprised to hear that amiibo scans make natural campers impossible—I had assumed the low appearance rates for campers were to incentivize amiibo use, which didn’t seem fair to me either. Overall I just wish that campers were more likely to occur, with or without amiibo cards.
