The past is obdurate
You have to press a when you get near the shadow and keep pressing a to catch up with it and catch it.
If it goes out of bounds though, past the barrier you can't get it

I kind of mean when you're under water already chasing it, but the shadow dissappears... it's not past the barriers but often near the shore.

You just have to keep pressing a, they do disappear sometimes. Think it depends on when the shadow spawned, they only hang around for a short while. Not sure there's anything you do do about that unfortunately

like if you see some bubbles or a shadow but it's not the shape or movement you're looking for, if you don't bother trying to chase it it will just disappear after a few minutes. Think it just depends on how long it's been there

It's happened to me an awful lot....infuriating after you've chased it half way across the beach for it to disappear into a burst of bubbles

Yes! I was just diving and it just kept happening... especially annoying when you're pretty sure it's a good one...
