Zootopia, known as Zootropolis in the UK, is Disney's next upcoming movie. It is scheduled to release March 2016. The above teaser trailer was realised this week and the basic plot can be found online, however I do not want to post any spoilers.

What are your first thoughts about the movie? Are you looking forward to it?

I'm not sure what to think. The trailer really showcases the great animation, but overall I don't think the trailer did the film much justice. It was trying too hard to explain the idea of anthropomorphic animals as if it's never been done before. Heck even Disney's mascot, Mickey Mouse, is anthropomorphic. That being said the humour in the trailer wasn't awful, the storyline seems okay, I really like the character designs and Jason Bateman's voice works well as Nick Wilde (the fox). Judy Hopps' (the bunny) design is especially cute.

That looks pretty interesting and original by Disney. Of course knowing it's a Disney film everyone is going to have mixed opinions about it. :)

I wonder what the name change is for.

The character designs, the fox especially, seems typically "furry" to me. That, along with the trailer explaining "anthropomorphic" have people wondering about this movie- if it was inspired by the furry fandom. I think it will either be loved or hated (or both, in a divisive way?) in that fandom, based on the youtube comments I've seen.

I can't really tell what the plot is like from this. I will say I have been disappointed in Disney for a while. I am curious about this, it looks a lot better than Pixar's Inside Out (that looks terrible to me, tbh).

The good thing is the trailer showcases the designs- the fox and rabbit are cute. But why only mammals? That seems like a strange limitation.

I don't know why but the bunny reminds me of the woman with the squeeky voice from Police Academy.

But yea, I guess this will be alright...I guess...It's from the creators of Wreck-it-Ralph and Big Hero 6 and I like those, I even liked the non musical parts of Frozen (so like, 20 minutes of it).

I dunno though, it just seems like it could easily be just terrible puns and forced situational humor (that ends with a terrible pun). Anthropomorphic animals have been done before and I feel that they've been done way too much to make the fact that they're anthropomorphic the sole selling point.

I'll watch it though and see what I think when it's released.

It seems more like a guy just thought "wouldn't it be funny if animals did people things" rather than being specifically based on the furry fanbase.

Looking at it again now, is it just me or does the fox have odd proportions? He looks too tall and stretched out.

Basically a century or two into the future after the events of Over the Hedge

I don't what to think of this yet, since it was only a teaser.
It looks like they used the same snarky arrogant main character with the good-two shoes sidekick formula. It doesn't really bother me that they are animals, but it did strike me a little odd they had to explain it. You can see they are, why does it need to be explained?

Oh and another thing that bothered me was the fact that everyone was a mammal. Like, the trailor stated that there were no humans, but intelligent animals. So no other animals? Are reptiles and birds second-class citizens? Was there like an animal Civil war we don't know about? I need explanation before you just throw animal segregation at us, Disney.

I totally want to see it. There's not enough in the teaser to really go on, but I love the concept (and the fox character).

Cute movie, but the "nothing you ever seen be-fur" tagline....

That is so forced, it hurts.

i dont like it, because.. its basically humans saying animals would've behaved just as bad, if they were in the position of humans. why would the animals behave just like humans and dress and have the same technology, if humans weren't around..
they say its animal perspective, but it's just humans projecting.

This post is very confusing. XD

I think shunishu is saying: If they act exactly like humans, why not use humans in the movie? Or on the flip side: if you're going to make a movie about animals, have them act like animals.

Could be wrong.

I think it was a bit odd considering the trailer meantioned there were never humans in this world... but still alluded to the fact that humans were a thing. How would they know humans never came about if they never saw humans? I think that did that just for the trailer's sake, but it's still a bit eerie. They didn't really need to explain there were no humans as you could see that the world was made up of animals. The viewer would see it and be like 'Oh. In this movie, everyone's an animal. Alright.' There's no questioning why, its just a movie where everyone's an animal.

They took my towns name lol (had my town for over 2 years :P)

(Also sorry for bumping an old thread, I didn't see the trailer til now and wondered if there was already a thread for it haha)

ugh sorry for the double post OTL

Honestly, it doesn't seem that interesting to me. It looks like another "[insert non-human race here] lives life [almost] just like humans!" plot.
