I bought a rare PS2 game called Kuon today. I've been looking for this game for about a decade now and haven't seen a copy of it until today (would have been under $10 if I could have found it when I first started looking *sigh*). The price tag on this was $200, so I brought in a ton of trade-ins to pay it off. I have 14 days to return it, so I brought it home to take a closer look. I expect most games to be resurfaced when buying them from a store like that, but I'm a bit concerned because I don't know how many times it has been resurfaced or if this is eventually going to cause damage to the disk. The game is too pricey to take risks with (too bad I'm stuck with roughly $170 store credit now if I return it)

What I've noticed about the disk:
- The PS logo on the bottom of the disk is very visible compared to any other game I own (I can barely see it on them)
- The black edges on the bottom of the disk look a bit wavy in some spots
- The disk is slightly thinner than other disk I own

Main Questions:
1. Does this sound like the description of a resurfaced disk?
2. If so, does it sound like this disk will be more prone to permanent damage, even with light and careful use?

it does sound like a resurfaced disk, but usually (at least from my experience), they're not more prone to damage. I mean, if you're rough on disks, it'll damage it, but it's not going to get damaged just from using it

Thanks for helping me feel a little more easy about owning a disk like this :)

this isn't relevant so i'm sorry but i found myself googling the game you mentioned and then binging so many youtube videos of gameplay on it haha, it looks like a horror game i'd enjoy, it feels so eerie

No, I'm glad you commented this! I want to talk about this game like crazy. It was the only Japanese horror game released in my region that I haven't yet played and now I'm playing it. It is SO much better than I thought it would be. I heard the atmosphere is the best part, but I honestly didn't expect it to exceed my expectations this much. I was a little worried when I saw the first cutscene and their mouths didn't move, lol, but everything else has been great. Even the combat isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

On a similar note, if you're into this kind of thing, you should definitely check out Rule of Rose and Fatal Frame 2. Both are really beautiful gamea and Rule of Rose is like nothing else I've ever played before.

i hadn't even heard of it! i see it's become quite famous for being incredibly rare though, i ended up watching through the whole thing last night, i rarely get scared anymore because of my love of horror games/films but something about kuon creeped me out so bad. i think it might be the setting/idea, i haven't played any japanese horror games before. aww yeah the mouth thing was distracting for a little bit (i thought they were like talking in their heads or something to begin with lol)

i will definitely check them out before, fatal frame i've been meaning to check out for ages but haven't. not really similar (well playstyle is actually pretty similar) but have you played eternal darkness (by the sounds of it u def have) that's my favourite horror of all time, i love talking about it haha, it's probably not amazing if you've played so many but it's the very first horror i played

I thought they were using telepathy at first too! Haha. But yeah, I'm the same way with rarely ever being creeped out and just the opening movie for the game was really freaking creepy. This game and another game called Siren were the only games to ever make me feel a little creeped out.

I actually have not played Eternal Darkness. On Nintendo systems I tend to stick with the main Nintendo games only, but seeing as it's really not that expensive, I will probably keep a look out for it! I have heard really good things about it, but I usually stick to collecting Playstation games. Thank you for mentioning this!
