Dirt paths are really really hard to make!

I've spent so much time making sure I run up and down all of my paths at least once everyday and it still feels like I'm made no progress. (▰︶︹︺▰)
I wish there was something like a till or a hoe so you could go and make dirt paths without having to do so much maintenance.

I should have just stuck with a patterned path lol

They are hard to make sometimes it feels like. It's even harder keeping them after you do make them! I had a lot right before it snowed in my town, and now they're all gone because the grass grew back lol. I really don't want to have to run around to make them again so I'm trying to find a path I like... which has also been a process. I'm too picky sadly. ;_;

A till or hoe would be a pretty great tool to have! Maybe in the future it can be included! xD

I have the same problem as you; I'm way to picky about patterned paths! The worst part about them for me is that you can't smoothly merge them with existing buildings and things because of the edges u_u I have so much admiration for people who make it work.

I was going to make dirt paths but I ended up deciding against it because of all the upkeep it takes. It would be so great if there was a tool like you said to help make them, or just anything at all that helped make and keep them as they look at first.

I was told that putting paths kept the grass from wilting and paths wouldn't happen but one of my friends on tumblr posted that they peel up their paths and dirt paths had happened somehow underneath. This makes me want to try to peel up my most traveled areas and see if they've started forming underneath, I've always been fond of the dirt paths but never into the process.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the next game wards you with a golden lawnmower instead of a golden watering can when you get a perfect town...

That's actually the method I've been using! I have a pattern down so I know where to keep running!
I definitely suggest peeling 'em up. It's really fun seeing the hidden pathways~

omg that would be beautiful. It would be really cool if it were one of the ones you could ride but I feel the old push ones would be more animal crossing style.

Meanwhile I'm here, trying to make sure my grass grows and not get these dirt patches.

I just think it's funny how we've made a 180 from how much people hated the grass wear in City Folk.

I've read laying down paths helps slow down grass growth, but it's only running that can wear it down. It's a lot of hard work, but you can get some pretty spectacular results. Maybe limit yourself to your main paths being dirt? Or start with only a section of your town and work out from there.

Here is a guide I found online if you're having any trouble ~

I tried making a grass path I got no progress and just gave up, it looked so ugly havign random patches of dirt everywhere ;_:

I've noticed my grass thinning over this past week around my bridges, house and either side of re-tail. A couple natural dirt patches have gotten wider too by my cafe and Anabelles house. =3 I feel like my town layout is slowly taking shape.

I'm the same, I wish there was an invisible option on patterns instead of roughly matchings the grass and then having to change the colours of the edges when the seasons change.

I friggen' loved my CF natural paths. They took work keeping them from slowly widening all the time, and I had to stick trees where I wanted sharp corners and line them with common flowers cause I kept crushing my hybrids. But they snaked around my town nicely.

Its absolutely hard for me to try and make dirt paths in this game. In City Folk is was so easy. =w=

Good idea, I'll have to try it. Maybe I've just been stretching myself too thin trying to do the whole town at once lol.
Also, thank you for the guide!

ahhh~ I'm jealous. I never played City Folk but I feel like I would have loved it for that alone.

Because the dirt doesn't look like clay and diarrhea anymore. Plus it doesn't take forever to grow back lol

I've always considered having a natural path myself, but the thought of maintaining a dirt path was always so daunting.

I think a natural path lined with flowers and bushes, however patchy/grassy it is, is still pretty nice itself.
With all of the connectivity in New Leaf, people have been comparing towns more than ever, so we see something we like and tend to not really happy until we have the same thing.

There's nothing wrong with patchy natural paths, they're simple, quaint, and give a nice natural feel to a town. Just seeing perfect dirt paths all the time makes you feel like you're missing out, I know cause I feel the same way.
Try not to think about what everyone else has. The best towns, imho, are the ones people make for themselves, cause it reflects what they like, not what they think everyone else would like.

That being said, I have nothing against your venture! Get those dirt paths and get the town you want! you're sure to do well ~

It's like shaving.

I agree. However, they are so worth it. You could also just line them with flowers, trees or bushes so when the grass grows back, it's no big deal and they still look like paths.
