Digital Copy Vs. Physical Copy

I make a thing of buying physical copies where I can, pretty much exclusively with the 3DS (also because you have something to sell on a few years down the line).

I do mostly buy digital versions of PC games, but mainly because physical only provide a Steam key anyway and it requires Steam running to play. If it's cheaper or a little bit more expensive, and it comes with extra stuff I will pretty much always buy the physical copy.

I've noticed that some Digital games, despite having been out for a while are still the same price as it came out, I would end up just getting a physical copy of said game because it'll be cheaper. But personally, I prefer my games to be Digital because less clutter around my TV or that possible chance my kid accidentally scratches up the disk and ruining it. Which has happened when she was younger.

My decision to purchase either physical or digital goes on game-by-game and platform-by-platform basis. If one of my criterias below are met, there's a high chance I'll get a digital version of a game, assuming that its physical counterpart isn't significantly cheaper to purchase.

- Multiplayer being a major aspect to the game
- Has plenty of replay value
- File size taking about 5% or less of the memory storage I currently own

I like both cause if i didn't find the game in stores, ill look for it online (digital).
but tbh i prefer digital cause its more convenient, don't need to go out to get the game when you can just buy it online at home lmfao (yep I'm VERY lazy) also my country doesn't have ****, they don't have a wide variety of games so either way i have to look for it online most of the time

I love collecting video games so I almost always get a physical copy of a game if possible, although there are times when games are only available digitally so I have no choice. :c

Its nice because physical/digital new releases usually cost around the same amount of money, and sometimes they do special things for physical copies like soundtracks or I remember for some xbox games they'd give you free Xbox Live gametime etc. Can't forget the pretty boxes either, I'm a sucker for those. c:

Its also just more exciting to get a physical copy of a game than a digital copy I feel. Going out to GameStop or something to get that new release you've been waiting forever for is so much more fulfilling than just downloading it.

I personally more like the physical copies as I dont have too many games. The only reason I bought myself a digital copy is so it doesnt get rendered useless but theres also risk of corrution. The 2nd reason is you cant find a physical copy of ACNL anywhere here in Belgium and the digital copy was on sale at that time.

I would rather have physical because my internet isn’t fast and storage space issues. Digital is convenient but I have the digital version of ACNL and now I’m terrified of my SD card corrupting.

nintendo/console games: physical only. i really want to play rune factory 4, but i refuse to buy it digitally

I pretty much prefer phyiscal copies because at least I'm promised that no matter what happens, those games are still mine to play and own. While I don't do anything that would get me banned from online services like Uplay, GOG, Steam, Origin,etc my worry is that what happens to the games I own when those services shut down? I mean we're beginning to see that type of thing with the shutdown of the Wii/DSi eShops, where you're unable to add more currency and purchases will be shutoff next year. How long will they keep it up to let us redownload titles too?

Personally as handy as digital copies are, especially with being a lazy person and can't be bothered to get up and change discs sometimes, I prefer physical copies. I like them more because I can sell them to game shops, second hand, if I ever needed the quick money and I like having them all together on my shelf for some reason.

I've always loved having physical games, especially Nintendo ones, but I can't justify it on the Switch, digital games load faster, and I'm not gonna bother switching out cartridges, and carry them with me, I might rebuy the games physically if the prices fall enough.

I've always personally preferred physical copies. I've never considered buying digital copies for most of my life, save for one 3DS game and regretted doing so later. xD

gotta say, i'm shocked at the amount of people who prefer physical over digital, and i'm honestly happy to see the results so far. i've decided that i do strongly prefer physical copies, but only on the 3DS. for pc gaming and on other consoles, digital is usually much better. i feel like i'm risking too much when i buy a digital game for the 3DS. i only own two games digitally for my New 3DS: terraria (didn't know they made physical copies lmao) and colors! 3D (because you can only buy it digitally). i'm constantly crossing my fingers, hoping they don't get corrupted. i'd be especially sad if my copy of Flipnote Studio 3D got corrupted; I have quite a lot of time put into my animations. oops i rambled,, sorry

I don’t understand why people think digital games will corrupt, if anything I see physical copies as more likely to, plus you can lose physical copies, and they can be damaged.

Physical will always be superior. It's far more satisfying to be able to look at your actual collection rather than just looking at them on a screen

Pretty sure that these peoples were both solely basing on how often Animal Crossing: New Leaf corrupted their saved data, in addition to preferring physical copies in first place. Doesn't help that they're more liberal with resorting certain save/reset tricks, therefore increasing the odds of data corruption.

Animal Crossing wise, I’d prefer physical < digital.

Gamer wise, Definitely prefer physical > digital because I could just put that game in and play it.
