Difficulties catching the Petaltail Dragonfly

Hi Guys,
As the title states I've been having difficulties catching the Petaltail Dragonfly. I've been walking up and down my river (and the rest of the town and the beaches of course, but mostly the rivers because they are supposed to spawn there) between 5 and 7 pm for weeks now, but with no luck. I thought the scorpion was the hardest thing to catch, but I guess I was wrong.
I've tried everything I could find online. Cutting trees, opening the gates, and of course the save and continue trick. But nothing works. It seems like these dragonflies just don't spawn in my town.

Is there anyone who can help me? Who can give me the ultimate hint to catch that fricking thing?
I'm pretty desperate at this point.

I think I've seen that thing like twice and never again. I don't know any trick besides the ones you listed. It's just way too rare.

Do you have purple, blue or black flowers? They only spawn when those flowers are present

Hmmm that's strange it seems to come up often for me, and my town has tons of trees and flowers. But it didn't seem to only spawn near river, I've seen it all over. Perhaps the pond is also a spawn point? (yes, I'd offer for you to come over, but I TT and I'm in november now)

But I'm going to assume 5pm in September is it's most common spawn point, if you're willing to TT.

Do you have purple, blue or black flowers? They only spawn when those flowers are present

I think you're confusing it with the peacock butterfly ^^

As far as I know there are no spawn conditions for the petaltail (its a giant dragonfly)

I hate that dragonfly ;-; I was walking around my town once, and it appeared out of nowhere. You know how when you try to catch a bug that's on the ground and you miss so they scurry away?? Well that's what the dragonfly did, except I didn't even have my net because I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS THERE UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE.

I know this doesn't help lol but I need some help catching this thing as well

The islands have it sometimes, choose ore hunt and grab a net from a gyroid.

I have Trouble finding it too, i needed one today for a Town Initiative! I couldn't find one of those though! The thing Being Available for only Three Hour's doesn't help, either!

I find they appear on the beach quite often. They linger long enough to catch them. Just keep walking around and one will eventually appear.

it sounds like you've tried everything, so all i can say at this point is to keep trying. fortunately i caught mine not long into searching for it, but i don't think ive seen another since.
also make sure you're in the right time frame too because at first i somehow realized that i was searching an hour early.

I've seen it only twice, and I was using and alt character at that time. I caught it and donated to the museum, but my mayor's encyclopedia didn't get the slot. The second time it appeared I managed to catch it with my mayor and whew! >v<
Never saw it again though. I remember it's very big, so it's easy to notice.

I used to see it quite regularly but I played daily and right around its flight time.

Walk circles around town, scaring off insects or catching ones that you don't need. After 10 or so loops, enter a building to "reset" the insects. Luckily it is not as hard to actually catch as it is in City Folk, where it is blazingly fast.

Might sound obvious but make sure you are in the exact hours. It only shows up in the later afternoon, not throughout the day like most dragonflies.

i was very very veerrrry lucky- when i started compiling a list of all my remaining bugs and fish and deep sea creatures to catch, i decided to tackle the petaltail dragonfly first, and it only took me two or three days of half-hearted snooping around to snag one near my upper waterfall

i know its taken a lot of people a ton of time- chuggaaconroy spent, like, 4 hours a couple days ago trying to find one over multiplayer. he read that it might be easier to catch if you're on multiplayer. i'm not sure how sound that hypothesis is, but he did end up finding one in the end, and it definitely helps to have another set of eyes roaming around town that can holler you over if they see it :')

I've only seen it once and I was just standing around thinking about what to do. It scared me when I first because I was busy in my thoughts. I got rather lucky and that I was already holding my net so I could catch it, methods of getting it to spawn are already shown but maybe standing around the same place for a while? Either way good luck!

Wow, thanks for all the comments guys! Seems like the only thing to do is play everyday from 5 to 7 pm, hoping it will spawn.. I missed a couple fish last month, so it's not the end of the world for my encyclopedia, but it is the only bug I have left to catch for october so I would really like to find it...
I'll try some island tours as well, haven't done that yet. (except for the dragonfly tour, no trouble there cathing it.... Too bad that doesn't count!)
