I didn't know it for a long time, but I started to figure it after none of my cedar saplings grew on the southern side and that the north part of all my towns were getting crowded with them. :c
Oh wowwww, I actually did not! =O No WONDER those cedars I would plant on the south parts would wilt! That makes a lot of sense now. Thank you for noting this and posting, I probably would never have caught on if you hadn't. XD Sorry about the saplings, though. That sucks.
Cedar trees grow everywhere, but I think the game developers were trying to go for trees similar to Christmas trees, which can be other trees besides cedar, like spruce or pine. In general you're more likely to find conifers (like the cedar trees) in colder climates than other types of trees.
Yes, actually! A heard the news spreading around the Forums and such, and I was pretty bummed out because I had already started landscaping for the southern side of town. Now I always have to be careful when I'm planting my cedar trees...
I did know this, because it's been true since ACGC. I try to use the river as a general guide and keep an eye on my little icon moving on the map to make sure I don't go below the top half of the map.
Sadly, I found this out last year, with my old town. Since I love nature and hiking, I wanted a Yosemite-like area around my campsite and thought the cedar trees would look beautiful there. Well, in my old town, I had placed the campsite on the bottom half of the map.
Upset that any cedar tree I tried to grow there ended up wilting, I finally researched the issue and found out about how they could be grown in the northern area. :c Initially, I did not want my campsite there, because I thought it would be more suited away from the train station. But this, along with other various issues, inspired me to recreate my town, so I could grow it into the vision I had in my head. <3
My campsite is now in the northern area, all alone. The train station doesn't bother me as much as I thought, since I blocked it with perfect apple trees. ^-^ It will take a while to gather all of the cedar trees for that area, but that is part of the fun!
