Did they change how the star rating works?

So, I noticed after the last update I'm getting Lily of the Valleys again. I used to get tons of them but, after using dropped items as decorations, I stopped getting them (and didn't really mind, I started selling or tossing them because I had so many). But now they're back? And I don't think I have any less dropped items overall. Did Nintendo tweak something in the formula? For what it's worth, most of my dropped items are on stalls, but, again- I wasn't getting Lily of the Valleys for a long time until this new update. Anyway, I'm just curious!

I believe as long as your dropped items aren't on the ground, it doesn't count against you. Could it be that you simply didn't have any cliff edges on which your flowers could spawn. I wasn't getting them for the longest time because there wasn't a free spot for them to grow. Even now, I've only got one single 1x1 square available for it, and I'm sure it'll fill within the next day or so.

No, I definitely had cliff edges for them to spawn- I haven't changed anything about that (hence why I was utterly confused when I first saw a new one spawned)

I guess maybe it was because I didn't have much on the ground (I also drop items outside my side character's houses to transfer them- there's no way I'm gonna waste time and energy mailing things to them) but, even then, it just seemed weird... I've definitely had times where I haven't had much on the ground and still didn't get them. Maybe there was some other "issue" then or I'm just imagining things

If you have 6+ exact duplicate items in the same 8x8 quadrant in your island, you will receive point deductions from Isabelle.

I didn't know that was a thing? I feel like I'm so dumb in the island rating system.

That's... really arbitrary and weird. Then again, I guess the whole system is "arbitrary and weird", so it works

The island rating is surprisingly... picky, to say the least. As long as you meet the requirements before the new day where it 'drops', you can still get a lily of the valley for that day despite the drops.

I lay transparent pattens on cliffs where there was space, to stop jacobs ladders from spawning.

I got sick of tossing them out.
