i haven't played acnl ("naturally" without third party software involved) since i bought the game in 2014. now that i'm playing, i'm noticing something i really don't like: plot resetting isn't working! i'm positive i'm doing it right, but a friend told me the game was patched so that the process wouldn't work anymore.

is this true? can anyone confirm this?

it does still work but its a lot harder now

id recommend instead using the "villagers wont move on patterns" thing to your advantage- tt back a day, cover town in patterns except where u want the villager to move in, and then tt forward again and go through the normal plot reset routine, load up a new character, check and make sure they moved in where u wanted, and if they did go ahead and get on ur normal character and viola! if they didnt, tt back before they started plotting again, find the hole where they tried to move in, and tt forward and check again, rinse and repeat until they go where u want

that definitely doesn't seem worth it anymore... covering the WHOLE town in patterns? that would take forever, and the old method was already time consuming : (

i just did it and i didn't notice anything different tbh!

the one thing i noticed is that the villagers had 'preferences' for certain spots (they kept bouncing around between only a couple of spots) instead of all over the whole map, but i never did any plot resetting before the update so i dont know if that's how it always worked !!

also i only had to do it four or five times and i knew the villager was moving in that day because its a new town!

idk if any of this was helpful at all jsdgklsgdk

that's so weird? so some people have problems with it and some don't i guess? i'll just have to be more mindful of it in the future and see what happens! thanks guys

No it doesn't! It only takes 2 hours. :)

You only need to put patterns every other empty spot not your whole town. And it actually saves a LOT of time conaidering i averaged anywhere between 4-10 hours of resetting per dreamie. Just takes a few more resets

I managed to make a plot resetting which made Apollo live in the same spot which Ankha's house was.

We must just keep trying.

Plot resetting still works, the other day I did it and got a villager where I wanted.

neighbor keeps plotting too close to my house every time I reset
plotted in the exact same place
currently on reset 10....

edit:
noticed they actually moved a single block away after my last attempt
looks like this is going to be a pain

It actually doesn't take that long at all, because you don't have to cover every single square with patterns. :) You only need to have a pattern in the middle of every 3x3 block (or a pattern in every third space, every third row). I use the little thing below as a reference. Os are patterns, and Xs are free spaces. It only took an hour or two tops when I made my town!

Plot resetting is still the same as pre-update. It took me around 140+ reset (yes, I have the patience for that. My record was 300 lol) until I got the villager I want having an ideal location. They keep changing places. The town is new so the game was trying to give me either a peppy or a smug. I got tired of it so I put patterns and saved 3x3 spots. The next one only took me about 10 reset. It's so much easier to plot with paths now lol. I haven't tried scanning my amiibo to kick out an unwanted villager then replaced them so goodluck to me haha hopefully, I'll have the patience if they keep placing in the same spot as I don't like that spot to have a villager house but yeah, I'll make sure to have other 3x3 spaces.
