Did New Leaf die too fast?

I remember when CityFolk came out, and ever the years following. There was always so much to do and the wifi boards were usually pretty full until somewhere around 2011.

When New Leaf first came out, the online forums were exploding, people were always online with their gates open, and you could always find new people to add. But recently I feel like it's getting harder and harder to find new people to play with. The wifi boards are usually barely active compared to what they once were. I guess I'm just trying to say is that I don't think New Leafs online has been able to live as long as some of the older entries. Do you feel like the magic has already died?

I don't think it died... it just seems like people are so wrapped up in trades that they don't keep their gates open for fun.

I don't think it has died. I just think most people have found items they are looking for and/or they are to scared/worried (About stealers) to just leave their gates open.

nah I don't think it died, I never had my gates open much even in the beginning for fear of ppl coming and destroying my town lol

I think this plays a large part. I also think that with City Folk, the game (Animal Crossing) was still fairly new. While people still enjoy Animal Crossing, New Leaf is still part of the game series and much more commonplace now. A new addition will bring about an explosion of more people/posts followed by another downfall where things stabilize I would think. Things are always more bounding when they are new.

AC:NL is still very much alive. It's just that there are very big titles that have come out and are coming out that they overshadow AC:NL.

I don't think so. I think it's just people are scared to have other people in their town? I have the same fear as nammie does. I have my gates open only for trades. I've had someone wonder in my main town a bit but that's because I already knew her for quite a while. But there are still people who are down to have you in their town to play in the train station section boards.

I find a lot of people avoid playing online because they don't want to pick up any voided villagers.

Personally, I just don't like to play with other people. Island games were fun for a while but they're pretty repetitive, and other than that I don't see the point really? There isn't really anything special to do in town when you have people over besides show them around, and honestly, I'd prefer they just visit my dream address so I don't have to babysit. :/

No. I think it's because not everyone has the time anymore because of school or other events popped up. Or because they're fed up with plot-resetting and taking a break (like me)

I don't think NL is dead and if there is a decline, I think it's because people are in school, Smash Bros just came out, the demo for Pokemon AS/OR just came out and I think alot of people don't just leave their gates open anymore because they're afraid of being scammed and damages to their towns (I know that's why my gates pretty much stay closed unless I'm trading).

i don't think so, no. right now there are so many games (especially major titles) being released for the 3DS, so people are going to currently be focused on those, and school is a thing as well. for me, i can either play AC religiously or not touch it for six or so months straight, and i'm sure i'm not the only one.

as far as online goes, i'm not a huge fan of it, personally i find it more fun to play it by myself because then i feel relaxed. the game relaxes me, and when i'm playing with others, that feeling is kind of taken away, plus as someone else has said, there isn't too much to do with other people apart from showing off your town and vice versa, and playing island games, which imo, are quite boring.

I've sort of gotten bored with ACNL so i'm on a hiatus. I'm playing smash but i'll return to it some day

No, I don't feel like it died at all. (though that may be because I don't know how it was when New Leaf first came out) It's still going strong, in my opinion! There are still a ton of people who love and enjoy this game. I doubt it will die in the next three to four years. :)

no, well, a little... i think people are so busy trading and what not they rarely open their gates for fun! i would love people to vist my town but i just started and i am planning make it look a bit nicer before i do that :l

Just like a lot of the others, I don't think it died, not at all! It's just that people don't just open their gates because no one wants their stuff being stolen..

The community kinda slowed down once Pokemon X & Y and Smash 4 3DS showed up.

But you can say that to every game out there.
