Ejecting the game itself should not cause data corruption.
But technically you're only supposed to do it on the home menu.
Also, you're technically not supposed to reset anyways.
Irrelevant. It is not intended behaviour. Resetting or popping out your card should not cause hard memory to be corrupted. It is bad design if that happens.

Hey Sourpuss, I'm sorry about what happened to your game.
I'm impressed you are finding the will to start over. A game like AC is so unique in that there is no real end goal, but it's the daily activities and interactions which makes it so interesting. I hope you find new reasons to love your new town and re-discover the magic which kept you playing all these months!
This makes me wonder why Nintendo doesn't allow backups for ACNL.
Simple - duplication. You back up your town, trade whatever really valuable items like DLC you have to another town, restore your backup, and now you have two sets of that item.
Maybe if they made the backup system cost a fee...
