Hey guys, I've just wondered - would be better if in the design function in Animal Crossing, would it be nice if the patch was non-pixelated and supported freehand drawing. It just takes away too much potential! I know, it looks normal zoomed out but the inability to make the letter w, for example, in a corner of the patch really bothers me.

What do you guys think? :)

It would be nice, but hard on the developers and the game. If the designs were ultra high resolution like what you suggested so you can "Freehand" and have it not be pixelated, it would probably cause game lag. All the textures have a set resolution, most of the tiles probably are like 128x128. They COULD increase the resolution of the designs to this, but it would be nice to make that optional. The current 32x32 is just MUCH easier to work with... You can count easier to center things, etc. Imagine trying to count straight into the middle of things and it would take hours, unless you are good at eye-balling it and making it centered. A measuring feature of sorts would need to be added.

So pretty much, if they made it really high resolution, players would be able to replace their town with like 1024x1024 textures which would be far more work to render than the whatever it is now (pretty low like 128x128 or 256x256 is what I am estimating.) Games like Battlefield 3 on the PC at Ultra settings I think feature like 8192x8192 textures, and you need to really get a good gaming pc to run it. Imagine forcing something 3 times the resolution into a little handheld that only has a 1.0 ghz processor, when most gaming PCs are pushing upper 3.0 ghz. This doesn't even consider a dedicated GPU which is obviously needed.

Sorry 'bout my unnecessarily long explanation which is most likely untrue in some places but I am not totally sure...

The game is aimed at kids. And for me, I still think that the designs are okay, it's simple yet possible to make intricate designs. It'd be much harder on the 3DS, and possibly more frustrating for kids. All for what? Higher resolution that only older people recognize? That's just what I have to say, and IMHO not a good idea.
