Designing villager homes question!

If you design one of your villager homes and then they decide to move out, will they go back to their default house if they move in to someone else's island? Or will they keep the new interior?

I think this is more wise from the game developers.

I have, as of this posting, redecorated the houses of two villagers.

So, I understand this choice.
