I agree that the DIYs can be annoying for sure. Personally, the items that are the most annoying in my opinion are the seasonal DIYs that only come from the balloon gifts. Even idling afk and listening for the sound of a balloon over head barely helps when trying to complete those seasonal sets. The RNG in particular on those can be extra brutal.

Also I believe there's a month (it might be 2 weeks) free trial for an online membership if you need to get other fruits, or do some trades for necessary items. :)

I agree with this. The Nintendo online subscription isn’t expensive but I personally think locking some features of the game (item colors, foreign fruits, QR code scanning) behind a paywall is simply unfair considering this is a full-featured game and not a free to play game. It’s the whole principle behind asking people to pay to play online that doesn’t sit well with me (even if it’s cheap) especially because these things used to be accessible for free in previous games. But we really don’t have much of a choice because without the online subscription, you’re too limited on item variations (especially those from nook miles machine) and paths and clothes (without scanning QR codes). I bet the Dream Suite (that they plan to add in future updates) won’t also even be accessible without it so you’d really have to pay if you want to use it.

I thought you'd at least be able to send letters with items to friends without a Nintendo Online membership.. Nope, turns out you can't. They should at least make all fruits accessible through mystery islands if they're going to do this...

It's a one week free trial. I used mine specifically to get the other fruits (and ended up renewing for just a month, recently).
If you do take advantage of the free trial, I'd be happy to bring you some fruit, or even mail it if your internet connection is the problem. I know not everybody has consistent wi-fi access.

I wish there would have been some mechanic for people to get able to get new colour ways and variations without having to do it online. I understand that Nintendo wants to make more $$ this way, but I feel that could be remedied somewhat by making that process a bit difficult.

I personally purchased the Nintendo Online subscription to trade online with people and play Tetris 99. Honestly, I don't think I'll renew it next year. I love trading and Tetris is fun, but I'm doing a lot less online play than I thought I would.

I think there's a chance to receive a new foreign fruit if you send your villager fruit via letters? Not sure if anyone confirmed that yet.

It is unfair, but as already said there's a free trial (which Nintendo recently reset) and you can buy online with gold coins as well.

I tried that at first (with mostly blank letters and fruit attached). Completed the miles achievement for it, 200 letters or so. Barely got replies, let alone fruit. Even with the normally written letters. They also send me stuff all the time including art but never fruit. It didn't work for me in New Leaf either, the only fruit they ever gave me as gifts were ones I already had in town.

But if the Harvest Festival in November is like the one in NL and you need all kinds of fruit for it, you'll get them from villagers during the event. I agree with the general sentiment on this thread, though...

What about acquiring sets in matching color schemes? My goodness, why does Nooks sell different colors of a set, but individual pieces are the same color always. I AM LOOKING AT YOU IMPERIAL SET (pls give red, not blue...)!

Honestly when I first got NH I had NO CLUE you needed to pay for the online subscription. I thought visiting people was just part of the game. I think the game would be almost impossible without it! For the price of the actual game, I feel they should include more than just a one week free trial offer. It should automatically give you at least a month's access to that service to get your island going.

If you do decide to activate the free trial I'd be more than happy to bring some of each fruit or items over!! :)

Me either because going online and playing multiplayer used to be free in previous AC games (New Leaf). And you can do more then that just visit and trade with each other because there are actual multiplayer mini games on Tortimer‘s Islands you can play with online friends.

I thought that in New Leaf you sometimes got a letter from Mom or a villager with a new kind of fruit.

But I haven't seen it yet in NH.

Mom does send you a different fruit, and on nook mile islands you can also get (but limited to) one other type of fruit. I think if you send villagers fruit in the mail they may send different ones back, but I'm not sure. What I'm sure of is there must be a way to eventually get them all without the need of a Nintendo online subscription. But I also don't blame Nintendo for charging a small fee for online membership, it's like a fraction of the price of PlayStation and Xbox, and you get so much more for your money with the nes and snes game collections etc. I hope you can take advantage of the free trial ^^

I received a cherry from one of my villagers in return for a favor one time. However, cherries also happen to be my mystery island sister fruit, so I can't say if that confirms other fruit are obtainable or not.

Yeah I hate this nonsense. Not to be too 90s child but I miss paying for a game and getting the whole damn game. I know there's a free online membership trial but the point is, I shouldn't have to resort to that to access content for a game I already paid for

I feel so completely GET OFF MY LAWN WHIPPERSNAPPERS about sooooo many things these days (YOUTHS!! *shakes fist at sky*) but I also just.... deal with it :| because I love visiting islands and whatnot so I'm also like. DEF part of the problem here. ALAS.
