Hello all!

Okay, so about a year or so ago, I backed up my Animal Crossing New Leaf save onto PowerSaves because I was trading it in for another game, knowing I would re-buy ACNL in the future.

I was also getting ready to sell my Pikachu 3DS XL in anticipation of getting the newest 3DS XL version that came out earlier this year.

Today, I go to restore my save on a new copy of ACNL from PowerSaves, but every time I start the game it says that the game data is corrupted and needs to be deleted.

NOTE:

*I never used PowerSaves to hack and generate items for ACNL, only to back up the data.
*The new copy of ACNL that I did purchased was a used copy from GameStop.
*I had to update PowerSaves recently to version 1.28 and I don't know if the update messed with something.
*I don't have the SD card from my Pikachu 3DS XL that I had originally played ACNL on. I don't know if this has significance to the game save not wanting to work.
*In my backup save, I always waited for the game to save, never shut the console down until it was done saving, etc.

Please give me your feedback on this! I would like to fix this issue if at all possible; I have a year's worth of progress backed up and I really don't want to lose my save!

I might be wrong but I don't think powersaves can be transferred to a different cart. I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
But I will try to poke around Google and see what's up.

it was definitly risky from the start but it still should have worked..
maybe it has something to do with the sd card? did you switch cards at any time ever?

The method you just used WILL corrupt the game. When the game recognizes that the new data is different from the one you previously saved, it deletes the save file :/ Power saves are just risky overall; definitely wise to stay away from them.

You'll definitely find people who are willing to pick you up back on your feet in your new town though.

Maybe it was because it's a different cartridge, if I'm reading this correctly? I don't think you can put old saves on another cartridge, so that'd be a bad sign if you did attempt that.

Okay, thanks!

No, I never switched cards. I simply used the one that was in the Pikachu 3DS separate from the new one I bought.

Wow, I had no idea that the backup method corrupted the game. That is pretty lame. The whole reason why I backed it up was so I could play it when I re-bought the game, lol. Ugh, and I was so excited to pick back up where I left off. Thanks for the information. That definitely makes a whole lot more sense.

It may be like it was said - if you backed it up and then are trying to restore it on a different cartridge that would be it I assume. However, backing it up and restoring it onto that same cartridge in no way, will ever mess up your game. In that instance the only thing that would mess up your game is by generating items.
